I have a buddy inside the program that tells me things from time to time - he told me that an idea seriously being considered- is starting College Football at the start of October and having no Conference Championship games but a 16 team playoff with two rounds of home games... So 9 game season with the possibility for 13 games for the two championship teams. Now - I still have hope we can start on time or at least in September - but I would really be into a 16 team playoff... this also seems to be a way to generate additional revenue and home game revenue for some teams...
Looks like openings in Georgia and other states are going very well - so hopefully none of this is needed - but 16 teams would be awesome...

The schedule juggling would be insane if we cut out September. For example, it looks like Bama and UGA are supposed to play on September 19. But, you can't just play that game when Bama has a nonconference game scheduled on November 14 because UGA is playing Tennessee that day. Georgia's bye is when Bama plays Tennessee. Bama's bye is when UGA plays Florida. So, either they play in December or find other teams to play in conference.

With no OOC games, how in the world could they seed? It would be 100% subjective, and those top 8 teams hosting the 1st round would have an enormous advantage. I like the idea of the 1st round(s) being hosted by the more deserving teams if we wind up going to 8 or 16, but there has to be at least some OOC matchups to determine those.

My friend inside a program told me they are just going straight to a 4 team playoff. Will include LSU, Bama, UGA and Clemson.

I have a buddy inside ________ college football program. He said that _________ is about to happen.
How many times has one of these scenarios turned out to be factual?

Less accurate than the trash can banging, that's for sure.

My inside source told me there were still too many moving parts to this thing to lock in a schedule yet

This is what's going to happen.
The SEC and probably the Big 12 and ACC are going to play a full 12 game season. They are going to perhaps even enter into a pact together for scheduling if the pussy Midwest and west coast schools don't play or want to start on time.
They will have their seasons and their conf champs. If a playoff happens, it happens, but those 3 leagues in particular won't give 2 shits about what Ohio state or Oregon or USC or Wisconsin think or do.
The south will probably even have fans in the stands.
If the SEC has to have a season all to itself, it will. If it has to play a couple big 12 teams for OOC games, it will.
Screw everyone else. I'm assuming the idiots in the NE and west coast aren't even going to play because the have communist governors.

16 team playoff is WAY too many. there aren't 16 teams that should be in a playoff.

Now that is something I could believe. Imagine what a nightmare it will be to try to get all the states, conferences, schools, and NCAA together on a decision.

Normally, I would whole-heartedly agree with you. But in this particular hypothetical with only 9 conference games comprising the entire regular season, they’d have to expand it. One, for fairness, but two, to try to make up some of that lost revenue of the canceled games.

Bama would be fine with that. Their limit is two tough games a year.

So they’re just gonna tell all their television deals to frick off ? Guess the world is ending anyway.
