Have any of y'all ever been to an Indycar event? If so, are they fun? Any suggestions?

Looks like the events last three days w/ escalating ticket prices. What is best day to go? Tips on where to sit (corner, straightaway, etc)?

I went to the Indianapolis 500 in 2010. One of my favorite sporting events I ever attended. Highly recommended

I actually went to the 500 this past spring. It was cool, but different. We had seats in turn 1, rather high up, but we had free endless beer provided by my buddy's father in laws company. They live in Indy, and it's their Mardi Gras...the museum is a must too.

I bet the Indy 500 is cool b/c that is by far the biggest one, but I'm not looking at that one. There is an Indycar event coming to the NOLA area and I'm wondering if that would be worth checking out.

I'm a sports guy....Love my Saints and Tigers, but I can enjoy any and all sports, especially live. I'll do the Masters, the Kentucky Derby, the Army/Navy game, etc.....I think it'll be cool, and I'm not a huge race car person like other areas of the country. That being said, those cars are badass, especially up close, of which we got to tour the garages after the race in Indy.

Went to the race at Kentucky back in 2011 I think. Race was OK but the finish was exciting. It was a photo finish.

Still like Nascar better.

Never been to an actual race, but back in the late 90s/early 2000s when they ran a race down at Atlanta, we went to a few of the qualifying sessions.

A completely different look and feel (and even sound and smell) for someone used to NASCAR races. Very fast though, since with the downforce they didn't have to lift the throttle as much as the stock cars do.

NOLA race is a road course, right? I think it could be an interesting event, just have to pick a spot there is a lot of action, I think the entry and exit of the turns are prime places for passes to occur.

Houston hosted one for a few years until it almost killed Ashley Judds husband. It was ok.

I think the Houston event could have been much better if it was in the city. Our race was out by the astrodome in a parking lot. If NOLA is Hostin IN the city it could be awesome.

Try to get access to a hospitality tent. Watch the race on TV and in person. Get access to the paddock or garage area. Walking around their garages and watchig them tune the cars was probably the most fun I had. We got really close, met a few of the drivers.

After te first 10 laps things get kinda monotonous.

If it's even half as fun as a NASCAR event then it would be a blast.

When this was announced I initially thought it would be a temporary street course, which kind of sucks because although you feel close to the action, the visibility generally sucks. I looked up a YouTube video of NOLA Motorsports Park, and it looks like it has a couple of good characteristics. It's flat, and the the paddock is outside of the track, so the visibility should be excellent if you sit high in a grandstand.

Make sure to get a paddock pass because you can get real close to the cars and check them out. And it's great for kids; they always have a driver autograph session, but I think they are on Saturday so you'd have to get a two-day pass.

I went to many Indycar races at Laguna Seca and a couple at Sears Point. Hilly natural-terrain road courses are great, and on both of those tracks there are places from which you can see almost the whole track. I also had media/photo passes for a few of them so I was able to stand next to the track and take pics. It's huge fun when you can get next to the track.

This is the old CART series at Laguna:

If there is a grandstand at the end of a long straight into a tight corner, that's the place to sit because that's where most of the passing attempts will take place.

I went to a few at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.

I am more into NASCAR so the Indy cars are a lot different in the set-up, the speed, everything. Try to met a few drivers and try to get a pit pass.

They are incredibly fast. You don't see a lot of bumping and rubbing like you see in NASCAR.
The races tend to be more 'civilized' .

The races go by very quick. The sound of the cars sound like a gaint bee-hive.

Overall, they are fun to go to but its a lot different than NASCAR.

Have fun.

NOLA event is on a dedicated track. Not a road course.

The term "road course" refers to a dedicated track. You're thinking of a "street circuit,", which is usually clarified as "temporary street circuit."

Thanks, that's Adrian Fernandez from about 12 years ago, so he's long retired.

Went to Indy 500 years ago. Very fun and a different crowd from Nascar.

We were in the infield.

Definitely recommend, It will be a blast, Been to the Indy 500 about 7 times from 1969 till my last time to get to go in 1985. As much as I love my Tigers , the Indy 500 is truly the greatest single day sporting event in the world. Saw that New Orleans will be hosting a race this year. Definitely go as much as you can. I believe they will be running on the road circuit at or near Avondale. If I was back down in Louisiana, you bet I would be there. Enjoy.
