5 conference champs and 3 at larges

First 4 games at home stadium of top 4 seeds

Really wish it was like that

ETA:

So that would be:

Alabama
Clemson
OSU
OU
Washington

Notre Dame
Georgia
Michigan

Tuscaloosa:
#1 Alabama v. #8 Washington

Clemson:
#2 Clemson v. #7 Michigan

South Bend:
#3 Notre Dame v. #6 Ohio State

Norman:
#4 Oklahoma v. #5 Georgia

Winners play in Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl, just like the current 4 team format. Then a championship game.

Change "3 at larges" to "highest ranked conference champ among G5 conferences and two at larges" and I'm in.

I would prefer a system where all 10 conference champs are in the playoffs but, until then, this would be the best.

Teams like Florida, LSU, Washington, and Penn State would be staking their claim

I can deal with 6 teams but if you lose 25% of your games in a college football season you shouldn't have a shot at the national championship

Except you still have to go on the road to the playoffs and beat those precious teams you seem to want to protect.

either we do a BCS style ranking of the top 8 OR some kind of hybrid of taking the Power 5 conference champs, highest ranked G5 champ and then the remaining 2 highest ranked teams in the standings if they aren't already in.

Under the first scenario the top 8 would be
1. Bama
2. Clemson
3. Notre Dame
4. Oklahoma
5. Georgia
6. Ohio State
7. UCF
8. Michigan

under the 2nd scenario you'd have

1. Bama (SEC rep)
2. Clemson (ACC rep)
3. Notre Dame (At Large)
4. Oklahoma (Big 12 rep)
5. Georgia (at large)
6. Ohio State (Big 10 rep)
7. UCF (G5 rep)
8. Washington (Pac 12 rep)

I go back and forth. On one hand I'd rather the 8 best teams and on the other hand I'd want to give meaning to having conferences and winning championships

At least two teams that shouldn’t sniff a playoff.

Conference championships should mean something.
