...could they ever survive/thrive?

I think the general masses look at our AAA/Zephyr/Babycakes history and think that would actively predict our baseball market. But who in the frick can gear up for minor league bullshite?

I'm sure the same thread gets started every year but it sucks raising Astros/Rangers fans in my kids here in BR.

Seems like we could do better.

Some areas are just more into college sports than professional. My understanding is that prior to the Saints winning a Super Bowl, LSU football was way more loved and watched than the Saints were.

I dunno man I've been to about a dozen CC Hooks games and those are downright fun. Great fan experience. Same thing to the games I've been at in San Antonio, Roundrock, Frisco, Jackson, heck even San Angelo has a better fan experience than the Babycakes abomination.

An MLB team might bring some crowds but they'd have to build something with a roof. And not name their team something stupid like the Pelicans.

With as shitty of a product the Marlins are putting out, attendance wise - could NO pull in any better? With the BR market being so baseball heavy, it would seem like both markets might make at least a tiny dent.

No.

Why would anyone send a team to NOLA before SA, Charlotte, Vegas, or Portland?

Hell, Havana, Monterrey, and Mexico City would probably be higher up on the list.

Major League Baseball has had only one relocation in the last 45 years so I would say the odds are pretty high that a MLB team in New Orleans survive. But the chances of them ever getting a MLB team is very low. It would require a Clay Bennett-type owner who is from the city of New Orleans relocating an established team. Also, the city of New Orleans will have to be receptive to providing public financing to building a new stadium and I don’t know if they would be willing to do that.

So the state payers would have to forced to pay for another pro team in NOLA? People are already paying $400 million to Benson just to keep the Saints there.

No. New Orleans has their Saints. We shall see how Pelicans tickets to without AD. No way New Orleans can support that many home games. Unless it’s a small stadium.

Make no mistake, the Baton Rouge market is LSU baseball heavy. People, for the most part don’t care about MLB, and that’s with houston only 4 hrs away

A baseball team requires a metro of around 3 million people or a regional draw.

No.

MiLB Attendance Numbers

There are several AA and A teams in smaller cities that show better than NOLA.

NO couldn't support a MLB franchise. Not enough population to support. Like the other poster said, it takes nearly 3 million people

Nola cannot support a baseball team unless the Pelicans leave and they create a smallish stadium. Like 15-20k tops with a lot of cheaper seats during the summer. It will also need to have a retractable roof for those hot as balls days.
I'd love a baseball team and would have season tickets though, but at this point I have to settle for the Stros.
