ASU and UA don’t bring much to the table IMO

And they begged to get into the Conference.

Yeah it’s kind of stupid that a conference called the Big 12 only has 10 teams.

I’d add Houston and SMU

Houston and Arkansas would be ideal but they almost definitely can’t get Arkansas.

re: If the Big 12 added two teams
Well they should have added Utah, but they messed that chance up.
Wish they could get Nebraska and Colorado back, but best bets are to get either SMU, Houston, Arizona/ASU, or Mizzou.

re: If the Big 12 added two teams
The point would be getting states that could help them build a network or become appealing for a streaming service. BYU makes a ton of sense and maybe they’d do it for B12.
For the same reason, SMU and Houston make 0 sense.

The Arizona schools don’t bring many cable/stream households. Memphis could, Cinci could based on geography and possibly bringing their states/areas and some parts of adjoining states too.

re: If the Big 12 added two teams
Guy in DFW media said two years ago they had serious discussions with UCF, Cincinnati, Houston and Memphis

Adding 2(or 4) would have been beneficial to them

Not sure which two I’d pick. None of them “wow” me

Arkansas and Mizzou are the best fits but we all know they’d never come back.

Tulane is probably the only bet for Big 12 to break into Louisiana, LSU would use its' power to shut down any public university consideration. Their only real draw is staging games in a party city though.

re: If the Big 12 added two teams
The obvious choice is to have each big 10 team play one SEC team. That leaves Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, and Kentucky playing their ACC rivals for their one OOC game.

re: If the Big 12 added two teams
Not only should they expand...they should add 4 schools:

BYU
Cincinnati
Houston
Colorado St

Big 12 North:

Iowa St
Kansas
Kansas St
Cincinnati
Colorado St
BYU
West Virginia

Big 12 South:

Texas
Texas Tech
TCU
Oklahoma
Oklahoma St
Baylor
Houston

Why Houston and not Tulane or Memphis?

If you’re adding another Texas school, why Houston over SMU?

I would happily give Missouri and Texas A&M back to the Big 12. And I’d be OK with Arkansas and South Carolina going elsewhere.

re: If the Big 12 added two teams
How about the Big 12 adds Tulane, Pitt, Cincinnati, and Louisville; the Big 10 trades Maryland for Notre Dame; ACC replaces Louisville and Pitt with UConn and Maryland; the Pac 12 adds Boise St and BYU; and the best teams of the group of 5 conferences (mainly American and Mountain West) form a 14 team American conference?

Then, you have 6 conferences of 14 teams. 6 conference champs. Top 2 teams get a first round bye and you’ve got a 3 round, 6 team playoff.

I think they should look at UAB. Birmingham is a huge sports market.

I think at the very least, BYU and Cincinnati would be top choices. The other two would be up for debate. You get history, fan base and tradition with both schools, while expanding the footprint into new markets. Both have super cool stadium venues that would add much much needed flair to a conference full of bland stadiums.

BYU

Cincinnati

Would UCF join if invited?

re: If the Big 12 added two teams
any team from the American would join in a heartbeat if asked.
Remember, presidents, i.e. academic types have a large say and Tulane is a member of the AAU, which academics greatly value. Rice is too, but i don't think the Big 12 would add another Texas school. Memphis and UCF do not have strong academics. I'll vote Tulane (inroads to the deep south, academics, good location) and Cincy (midwest, strong football and basketball, ok academics, partner to WVU).

would be funny if Tulane became the first school to have an SEC Championship and Big 12 Championship (pretty sure A&M has not done that)

Why should ESPN pay 25m more per year for product they already have on a long contract. ESPN likes the AAC.
