I wonder If Mario Cristobal had foreknowledge of the PAC 12 breakup?

Since Greg McElroy claims he had 2 months heads up I wonder if Mario had even an earlier knowledge which played into his jump to Miami..

I get that he got a big contract to coach his alma mater but Oregon is a better program and can certainly match anything Miami was willing to pay.

For that matter Clemson for AD, Dan Radakovich, also jump ship for the Miami TV market with a huge pay day.

The SEC or BIG would both find the Miami market lucrative. Keeping the BIG 10 out of Florida would be as important to the SEC has offering them membership.

The Timing is curious.

The Pac-12 has been the bottom power conference in the dollars and support for a while

And after the abject failure of their COVID nonsense it finally broke the camels back

Did not take a genius to see it was a doomed conference

Yeah, I'm a Bama fan and I'm starting to question most of Mac's statements these days. Used to like him pretty well.

Is it really all that farfetched that someone who does college football game broadcasts for ESPN may have been tipped off that this was coming? This had to have been in the works for several months at least.

This type of stuff is usually done at the school presidential level and normally have super tight circles

I mean maybe this was different and he heard from someone who heard from someone. But that isnt what usually happens with stuff like this

Especially when this was Fox drivem

I agree that it does not take a genius to see that PAC-12 was a doomed conference, but I do not think it COVID shenanigans had much effect. The PAC-12's decision to no form a true conference network and instead focus on mini-networks, and the fact that the best PAC-12 games are not in an attractive tv time slot kept it from cashing in during the 2010s. The PAC-12 only made the CFP in 2014 and 2015. Add in the fact that the loser of the SECCG made the CFPs several times, ND made the CFP in 2020 after losing the ACCCG, Bama made the CFP in 2017 and OSU made the CFP in 2016 despite not even winning their divisions, but a previously undefeated Utah could not make the CFP after losing the PAC12CG in 2019. Money and exposure and the ability to make the CFP had much more to do with USC & UCLA's decision to change conferences.
