I see people referring to the bubble playoffs as the hardest in the history of the NBA

and it doesn't make sense to me. Doesn't the lack of travel and not dealing with away crowds completely invalidate that?

Not even making a statement on the validity of the championship or anything, but to me this seems like it would be easier than normal (for both sides).

Lakers got to play Denver at sea level. Neither team had to deal with crazy crowds and refs being influenced by pressure of the "home team." You just chill and watch film in between games instead of hopping on a plane.

How is it the hardest playoff in the history of the NBA?

It was different for sure, obviously. Not sure about hardest.

In some non basketball ways i can see it with all the idle time and being confined to the bubble for 3 months and away from family and comfort zones and routines for most of it.

But from a basketball standpoint no way.

This isn’t exactly in-line with your point, but the Lakers gave up having home court advantage in every series they played

Because Lebron had to overcome so much pain and personal anguish in dealing with all the racism in the country this year. It was so tough on him he tried to walk out in the middle of the season but the rest of the league wanted to keep playing.

Bron doesn’t even have to want to play the games and he’s still good enough to win the Title. GOAT

Yeah it’s definitely weird but it’s the same for every player. For me, this was just the most pure basketball only playoff. In a normal year there are so many factors like travel, late nights, getting your dick wet in Miami, racist Boston fans cursing you out, refs giving home cooking.

This playoff removed all external factors and all things that could have been equalizers and just put it all on straight up basketball.

and imagine being cooped up in the same place for months on end and not being able to physically be with your family. And the whole "a global pandemic ended the season in the middle March and then America decided it was going to come apart at the seems two months later"

This was a bizarre situation and them throwing around "hardest title ever" is a broad term being used to describe the situation in a vacuum. Has there been a more difficult title won in the NBA than what the lakers just did? Probably. But they dealt with unique set of circumstances that no team has ever had to endure to get here

And that's before we get into what happened to the lakers this year. The China fiasco, the turmoil at the end of last season, kobes death.

It adds up

Okay, have the Lakers ever lost a playoff series to the Nuggets in their history? Assuming that’s not the case, I’m not sure how elevation is relevant. Also, every team had to deal with a neutral court. The teams that played the best basketball were going to stand out regardless.

Most unique playoffs of all time? Definitely, not even a question. I just think that the hardest thing about the playoffs is winning on the road. Removing that leads to fewer fluky outcomes and a way more controlled environment where the basketball is the biggest factor, not the crowd, the plane being delayed, the fans blaring music outside of your hotel all night, etc.

If I wanted to have this discussion with guys who have 58 favorite teams, I would've shared this topic on Twitter. Go somewhere else.

Such hardship. Being a multi millionaire that were blessed with incredible genetics having to sacrifice a little bit for a few months. God almighty at how some of you put these guys up.

Dude, it’s not like you started this discussion with the best of takes, so there’s no point in trying to play out that shtick of yours.

It was definitely the most pure playoffs of all time where the basketball spoke the loudest. I don't know if it's the most pure title because of the longest layoff, but I wouldn't make a big fuss over that.

I dont know where i fall cause, at the same time, the lakers lost a lot of the advantages that they would have had. I can understand why someone would think the bubble itself doesn't lead to a more "difficult" title. I can also see where someone would come at it the other way

I do think the lakers overcame more shite than most do to win a title this year just from pure off the court stuff. I dont know if thats "harder" but definitely something worth noting imo

I dont know if "pure" as if any one title can be. But its definitely a real one that history should recognize as legitimate

You just watched a finals series between two teams that you claim to be a big fan of. If that doesn't embarrass you then you are more pathetic than I thought.

Anyone who says it isn't real is just trolling or mad. LeBron James was always going to be in the chase for a title as soon as he got his second banana. The guy is incredible. We disagree on the layoff's effects, but he definitely looked fresher than I think he would've been without the shutdown. I'm not sure it would've mattered though because there was nobody stopping him.

I'm most annoyed that the Clippers turned out to be frauds though. Would've loved to see LeBron vs Kawhi in the WCF.
