In time of limited outlets I am quite surprised viewership is so low.

Outside of get woke go broke is there other reasons?

I guess season didnt naturally build to playoff?

Feels like a gimped season. NBA also thrives off fans in the arena. Games are definitely less interesting without a pumping arena.

they are mixed. The early evening games are down, the primetime games are up. And they are doing well with the 18-48 demographic. But they probably thought they'd be doing better

I think you heard that from someone on this board who was either bullshitting or using deliberately misleading information

I don't watch because I don't like the players like I used to. I used to like them and be interested in their lives. It felt so much more like a connection than it does now. I just can't relate to millionaires acting the way they do these days.

Depression is up in massive numbers as well as people picking up new hobbies with free time and isolation. Me personally, I've missed quite a few games just because there's so much on my mind day to day with everything going on.

I'm admittedly more of a casual fan but I haven't watched a single playoff game and I think the quote above is why. It feels stale/weird to watch a playoff game with no crowd. There's no enerygy/intensity/passion or whatever you want to call it. It just looks like two teams of badass players playing at the rec or something

Not a very compelling product outside of a couple series.

Quality of play has been great. Only difference I see is improved shot making look at what guys like Mitchell and Murray are doing. That is definitely in part due to an empty arena. and the backdrop. Like dame said this is a shooters gym that they are playing in.

ya I don't get the intensity arguments at all. first sign I know people are lying because the close games have been amazingly high stress

good point about the shooting tho dude

I read that as he watched some regular season bubble games and stopped watching because of the reasons he stated.

Some are theorizing the ongoing criticism of US and silence on China has rubbed people the wrong way. The NBA was getting 15% of their revenue from the Chinese market. Many players were touring China during the off season to make an easy dollar, yet turn a blind eye to the mass human rights conditions that we know exist in the country.

Had me wondering if Disney/ABC would like them to cancel. When you get into late September/October- the NFL and College football, MLB pennants, Stanley Cup, and the Presidential debates aren't going to help the ratings.
Would it be to Disney's financial benefit if the rest of the post season/Finals is cancelled, and the company keep the cash?

Disney already accomplished what they wanted, to show the world that Disney can set up a safe environment.

I'd like to see how other covid sports compare in viewership trends but this is true. However we are in the midst of a 10 year viewership decline. As much as the NBA likes to tout streaming and a younger demographic it's actually pretty useless for their massive TV rights dea and other monetization purposes.
