You literally never see the ball hit the ground. His left hand could just as easily have been underneath the ball as it moved.

Overturning that was a travesty

That's the whole thing. The call isn't like the Dez call bc you can clearly see evidence that the ball hit the ground without Dez controlling it. There was zero evidence of that in this catch. It was manufactured drama and that was the purpose of overturning the call.

I never once thought that was not a TD. The NFL is s fricking joke and I am done unless the Saints are playing. I haven’t watched a game in 5 years unless it was the Saints. Was at a party and stuck watching and THAT HAPPENED!!

Here’s the rule
Article 3 Completed or Intercepted Pass. A player who makes a catch may advance the ball. A forward pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) if a player, who is inbounds:

(a) secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground; and

(b) touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; and

(c) maintains control of the ball long enough, after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, to enable him to perform any act common to the game (i.e., maintaining control long enough to pitch it, pass it, advance with it, or avoid or ward off an opponent, etc.).

Note 1: It is not necessary that he commit such an act, provided that he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so.

Note 2: If a player has control of the ball, a slight movement of the ball will not be considered a loss of possession. He must lose control of the ball in order to rule that there has been a loss of possession.

So by every rule of the game it was a catch. And still wasn't ruled a catch. Insane

My biggest gripe is if he stretched across the goal line and was hit by a defender causing the fumble, it would be a touchdown. He also clearly made a football play by stretching out. Really bullshite call

Looks like he met all elements of that rule. And yet no catch.

Dammit, I forgot the last part of the rule.

Patriots.

He was already on the ground with possession the instant a defender contacted him he would be down by contact

He didn't maintain possession to the ground

He caught the ball around the 1yard line, and spun/fell into the end zone. When he landed on the ground, the ball moved in his hand as a result of hitting the ground. Thus not maintains possession.

''Tis as simple as that
