As a donor, I'm disappointed but not upset. Sort of silly thing to be upset about in the grand scheme of things really.

Actually will have a better chance to build ourselves a brand now that we are out of Texas shadows and have a more manageable path to the CFB playoffs assuming Big 12 is a Top 6 conference champ team.

As for the financial implications - the schools balance sheet is healthy and will be fine. Athletic revenue accounts for less than 10% of the schools operating revenue. Will the decrease hurt - yes, but let's not act like the school is going to go bankrupt.

I think you're living in fantasy land thinking like this. The Big 12 if it survives is about to join the Group of 5. No way the Sugar Bowl is going to be OK with keeping y'all as a permanent part of the rotation.

ETA: I'm sorry I'm also not talking about the school as a whole but the athletic department specifically. I'm not sure what it's like at Baylor but LSUs finances for athletics are totally self sufficient and separated from the Academics. So that's where my mindset is on that. In fact the academic side of LSU actually relies on Athletics for millions of dollars in extra funding.

It basically creates a situation where they will be making substantially less money for their AD which can create real issues for the department but if they, or tech or TCU or whatever, can consistently win the conference than they will still have a seat at the table

I could see 1 or 2 being placed somewhere else, but in the grand scheme of things, I don’t see the P5 schools breaking away then scaling down to 38 schools or so. It further screws up bowls, many of which ESPN owns, and you know they want that revenue from a BC/Kent State battle in the Bahamas.

This also further makes the sport look like the NFL. Crowning a national title winner out of a smaller group devalues the achievement.

Seriously? Playing way more difficult schedules devalues the achievement?

FBS needs a serious downsizing. There are too many teams without any chance of ever being a serious player, and they are wasting lots of money pretending.

However, I do think numbers in the 30s is too low. Yes, the courts have made the schools declare that this is the young adults professional league, but they have to be careful not to lose much of what differentiates college football. If they go too much NFL, then you may as watch the NFL. I think they need to be in the range of 48 to 64 teams.

At least you are realistic. Anybody who is a fan of a school like South Carolina, Wake Forest, Oregon state and such shouldn't be celebrating this.

The aggies should be particularly upset, now that they don't have any advantage over UT.

Honestly, I don't like the how college football has become so much about money. I always liked the pageantry and rivalries. But the last 30 years have been about the money.

The way that conferences were 30 years ago made way more sense from a rivalry and geographic point. But that was before it all became so profitable.

How about all of the Group of Five conference teams that are about to have the number of Power Five teams with money to throw around cut back. ULM pays their coach the least amount of money in the FBS, yet they still spent a ton of money on their facilities to keep up with the other Sun Belt teams. How do they pay for it without at least two "Money" games every season?

Honestly its probably the beginning (or midpoint) of the end of the sport as we know it.

I realize its more money for the SEC teams, but it just seems like its going to force schools like Ole Miss, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Miss State just further down into mediocrity in that conference.

I'm realistic this is likely to end not well in regards to Baylor ever being truly competitive in Football.

I'm just not sure how this is good for all these SEC schools that can't win the conference nowadays anyway. I don't think it is good from a competitive perspective for those schools, but money talks.

A lot of SEC fans are against it for those reasons (not that their opinions matter). More money isn't going to help those schools win the conference.

I don't disagree the Big 12 will be relegated to the Group of 5 but 2 Group of 5 teams will still make the playoffs.

Best case is the remaining 8 stay together. You force Texas and OU to stay until 2025 or enforce the large exit fee.

You hope the PAC-12 tv contract that expires in two years causes friction within the PAC-12 and that you can take a team or two (Arizona schools and Utah) to help offset the loss. Add BYU to get back to 12.

That's the best case.

Otherwise try to entice BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, and Houston/Memphis. Pitch yourself as a midpoint between the Power 4 conferences and the G5 conferences

You got an odd obsession with Baylor. I don't think I've ever seen a Baylor thread on the MSB without you in it.
