The older I get, the more I find myself getting nostalgic about things. I’m not even “old”, but I constantly think of the good ol’ days. I can rattle of NBA champs, WS MVPs, or AFC championship losers with great ease for the ‘90’s and early 2000’s. I always recall sporting events by where I was when I watched. I can’t do the same for more recent seasons. It’s made me wonder how viewing and appreciating has changed for me since my youth and teenage years:

BASEBALL - watching this is as fun as ever for me. The game does take too long, and the sport needs some tinkering, but overall...it’s very healthy. I still get exciting as Spring Training approaches.

BASKETBALL- the last couple of years have been a drag for me as the Spurs are easing into mediocrity. I watch less of the marquee regular seasons games. More than ever, it seems like regular season games and the first three quarters are irrelevant. The game is healthy. College hoops sucks because the players leave before you really get to know them.

FOOTBALL - the constant drama surrounding the NFL is annoying. The rule changes have sucked life out of the excitement for me. College ball is great, can’t get enough.

It seems like basketball and the NFL truly aren’t as cool as they were in my younger days.

The NFL is forcing me to not give a shite anymore and it blows, because I enjoy giving shits

When the saints lost this year, I literally just shrugged and said frick IT, IM DONE and changed the channel to LIVEpd reruns. It would usually take up to a week for the numbness to wear off

I know it’s an ‘NFL thing’ because I’m still very passionate about LSU

It's starting to get old for me. Nothing "new" happens.

As you continue to age you realize what is really important to you. Sports are a wonderful escape, but I can’t have an LSU game make or break my week like it did when I was seven.

Remembering going crazy with my dad 10 years ago today is up there with my greatest life memories, though.

I find myself caring less and less about following HS recruiting.

The bullshite "look at me stunts" helped but honestly the older I get the more I don't care to follow the decision made by a kid in high school whereas 10 years ago I was all about keeping up with the process.

I watched the 2003 LSU ship at my Dad’s house when I was 13. When LSU won I tore an LSU flag off the wall and started running all over the front yard with it wrapped around me. Still remember it vividly.

Didn’t watch the 2007 game with him, but I had him come up for this year’s and it was awesome to experience it again with him.

I still enjoy watching my teams when I have the opportunity to do so. Actually attending the games is still even better for me obviously.

Following recruiting in sports has admittedly dipped for me though.

Recruiting is definitely not something I’m as big on now.

It’s crazy for me to think that it was over 10 years ago when we landed guys like Peterson, Big Sam, etc.

I agree with you here. When I was younger idk if the players and media just didn’t talk about the business side as much as they do now or if I just didn’t comprehend it, but it seemed so much more pure like college football still somewhat feels to me.

I think myself being a college player as well with NFL aspirations, but zero chance of it ever happening, also makes me lean this way. I was never thinking ahead or about preserving my body. I gave it 100% every day for not only myself, but my teammates, friends and family.
College football is just really the last level where you have a lot of guys playing for the name on the front of the jersey and truly putting the team first.

It's become more of a social event to me than caring about the outcome of the game.
As does this message board.
Gets my mind off the stress in life.

When everyone in the league is so concerned about personal branding, the team concept tends to go out the window in most cases (for example: the way recruiting is, the way free agency works, the way players force themselves OUT of a situation via trade, etc)

Honestly, that’s the thing that’s turning me off the most from sports

Same thing with forced narratives. It’s so easy to tell when a league or an organization is blatantly shoving a narrative down your throat (I don’t believe Mahomes should’ve been SB MVP and I don’t think he is a ‘face of the league’ type player) - yes I know that’s an opinion most people aren’t gonna agree with, buttfrick it

The rule change for blackouts with the MLB is going to be a godsend this year since I can watch the Astros with my MLB At Bat.

I don’t watch sports anymore since I use that time to do things meaningful.

Are we sure that's happening this year? I've heard yes and I've heard no. Last time I checked Mlb.tv it still said Astros and Rangers are blacked out in my zip.

I've been trying to get excited about the Pels but this is a big reason it's hard for me. At times it seems like the effort level is about on par with an all star game. The talent level is crap in college but I actually enjoy it because those guys tend to play their arse off for 40 minutes. Every trip down the floor seems significant in a 70-68 LSU-Arky game compared to a 130-120 NBA game.
