How can you let your kid play football with all the research about concussions?

I don’t have any boys, but man it would be hard for me to let me son play football. Obviously I know kids will be kids and you can’t protect them from everything, but they are finding cte in high school and college kids. The qb thread(60 year old brain In college kid) got me thinking about just how bad repeated shots to the head can be. Football obviously forces repeat shots to the head for just about every position.

Game is changing. We’re teaching shoulder tackling and chastising any use of the helmet. The only reason I wouldn’t let my son play now is if he was a big baseball prospect. I say that because we will see a rise in torn labrum/rotator cuffs/dislocated shoulders with this new technique.

My boy is too fast to get hit and he's so strong they just bounce off of him when he accidentally runs into them. I think he's alright. We put him on the 11 year old travel team that played in Orlando last year (he's only 10) and it scared me a little but he ran all over them too. Lane kiffin was there and told me to give him a call in a couple years. I've sent him a few DMs to let him know his spring travel stats but he hasn't gotten back to me yet. He's a busy man it's whatever. We're looking bigger than FAU anyways.

Where are these hordes of non-functional 40, 50, and 60 year olds that played youth football? And they played with suspension helmets. If this CTE witch hunt is to be believed, we should have legions of spit-dribbling idiots shuffling around every street in America.

You must not deal with the general public often

How do you let your kid do anything? It’s all about risks and benefits.

I didn't let my daughter play high school soccer.

Sports illustrated told me 40 years ago that soccer players have brain damage.

This is for dramatic effect and is meaningless. Your kid would be better off playing football than drinking, smoking, or probably driving.

Well I have a baby girl so I don’t need to worry

But I was a 165 lb center on the football team I’m sure my bell has been rung a few times

But wouldn’t you have to avoid year round baseball due to the same concerns especially if he was a pitcher

I get your reason and right fully so

I know when I go to WalMart, I seek out random strangers to share with them my glory days on the field.

You shouldn't still be mad I got All-District and you didn't.

I guess the SoFla in my name didn't clue you in to the fact I live in South Florida? How many blows to the head did you take?
