How big of a problem do you think Burrow's underthrows will be in the NFL?
Joe Burrow was nearly perfect this year in a lot of ways but one concern than has been noted about him is his tendency to underthrow his WRs on deep balls. Burrow's tendency to underthrow didnt hurt him much this season because his WRs were usually just much better than their defenders at adjusting to the ball but I wonder how this will affect him the NFL playing against better DBs. Just look at this clip against OU.
LINK

Jefferson has his man beat deep but has to turn around and leap over the defender to make the TD catch. If the DB had turned around he couldve picked this pass off.

Or check out this play against Arkansas

LINK

Once again, Terrace Marshall has his man beat by a step but Burrow puts it a little short and the DB almost picks it off.

I just wonder about this because we all know pro DBs have better ball skills than college and Burrow is a guy who like to take chances in one on one matchups with his WRs deep.

You seemed to put a lot of work into a thread that’s probably going to get a lot of downvotes.

I really don’t think it’s a chronic problem. I just think sometimes he under throws his deep balls. Just like sometimes he overthrows them. Just like every other QB. Didn’t he have like record setting deep ball accuracy this year? Analysts were raving about “his beautiful deep ball”

It’s a big knock on him

His deep ball percentages are good, but inflated because of Jefferson, Chase, and Marshall

Everyone knows that if you aren’t a definite threat over the top, windows start to close underneath

If OU would’ve scored more points than LSU, they would’ve won the game

He had one of the most accurate deep balls in college football. You found like 1 throw where he under threw it. One of those links wasn't even really an under throw.

If that’s his only flaw, I’m good with it.

Also, you seem to have wasted a lot of time on this

I apologize for asking a legit sports question on an online forum about sports.

Burrow routinely got to his 4th and 5th read on Monday night against the best defense in the nation coordinated by the best defensive schemer in the nation who had 16 days to prepare.

Meanwhile Lamar Jackson basically gets through 2 reads before abandoning the play, and the sports media cant wait to crown that guy MVP.

Joe will be fine hes easily the best QB prospect since Luck.

Depends on how good his receivers are and who is covering them.

All of the great NFL quarterbacks do this.

I laugh when I watch old NFL games and the QB overthrows his WR by 5 yards on a deep fly route and the announcer says “that is perfect, either our guy gets the ball or nobody does.”

I think you’ll find bad throws because he threw so many of them. I also know that underthrowing a receiver when a db has his back turned is often the best way to complete the pass (or get pi)

I really didn’t like the terrace Marshall underthrow in the natty that wound up a pi by luck, but who knows if he felt the ribs a little bit on that one.

Yes and I started the topic by saying "Burrow has been nearly perfect in a lot of ways." Are we supposed to act like Burrow poops ice cream because he had such a great season? Everyone has flaws and there have been plenty of historically good college QBs who didnt have the sane success in the NFL. It is fair to ask a question about one aspect of his game that is concerning.

Did you watch the first clip I posted? Jefferson was behind his man but had to turn around to catch the ball and it ended up being a touchdown. Burrow has thrown numerous underthrown passes that were still caught and sometimes scored (like that one) and the stat sheet will only show how accurate he was. What I am asking is if he continues to underthrow passes as often as he does will better DBs in the NFL make him pay more frequently.
