The AL Central division has four teams below .500. That is compared to only six teams below .500 in the entire National League.

Beg's the same question as last year. How good is Cleveland?

Better question is can Boston beat Oakland?

Very, very good if they get Bauer back in the rotation

Are they though? 74-56 record right now...39-19 in their division. That means they are 35-37 against teams not from that abortion of a division. Of those games not against division foes... another 18 of their wins came against teams with a losing record(14 losses).

That means that they are 57-33 against teams with a losing record... and 17-23 against teams with a winning record.

Baseball version of Patriots and AFC East. Indians are really good. Just think they started cold. If they can keep Lindor, Ramirez and Kluber for several years and develop a core of prospects, draft well... no reason they won't be the clear #1 team in the division.

I direct you to my above message? Are they really that good this year or are we giving them a little leeway because they have been good the past two years and are leading their division?

They rank 4th in team BA, 21st in earned runs allowed, and 13th in fielding percentage.

Its pretty much set that the AL will be:
1. Red Sox
2. Hou/Oak
3. Indians
WC1. NYY
WC2. Hou/Oak.

I would not be surprised to see the West winner bounce Cle pretty easily. Strategy all season long has been to get to their bullpen and the west has the offense to decimate them.

In the playoffs, it comes down to who is hot. A healthy pitching staff can determine that. Cleveland’s 1-2-3, when healthy, is best in the league. This means Bauer would need to be healthy. I’m thinking he could be back by later September, but there’s no rehab opportunity.

Their bullpen is better with Hand and Cimber. It’s not elite, but if their starters are on point, they are as tough an out as anybody.

They're still only the fifth best team in the AL and not being mistaken for a World Series contender. Their run differential is obviously distorted playing in their division, and their record against the top 5 in the AL is 12-17 if I got that right. So yeah they remind me of the AFC East.

I was talking about the "Indians are really good" comment.

I'd still consider them really good. Good, really good, to me it means the same. Then there's ridiculously good, see the teams ahead of them in the AL. It's far from a normal year.

I agree I think if anyone is interested in betting on someone to win AL, Cleveland is the smartest play in terms of value

All comes down to if Bauer will be able to be on his A game though

And yet, none of that matters.

Hell, the Indians were the AL team to beat last year.

-2006 Cardinals won 83 games...and easily topped Detroit in the WS

-in 1997, the AL Central had 1 team with a winning record, Cleveland. They won a whopping 86 games. They proceeded to win the AL and come within three outs of winning the WS

-conversely, the 95 Indians won 100 games in a 144 game season, but lost to the Braves in the Series because they had superior pitching.

You could find shite like this routinely. The 2001 DBacks won a championship on the backs of 2 arms and a 9th inning in Game 7 for the ages. Why a baseball fan would count anybody out once the postseason begins is beyond me. We’ve seen too many championships won by Wild Card teams, or teams that weren’t blowing up in the regular season.

Indians couldn't hit for shite in April and May and were playing 500 ball until July.

It's not much of a surprise to me. A very legitimate argument could be made that there isn't a single top 100 player among the 25-man rosters for the White Sox, Royals, Twins, and Tigers. The talent drain in that division over the last few years has been insane.

It's difficult to make comparisons now with inter-league play. If they didn't have inter-league play what would the records be?

I'm not a fan of inter-league play in that it makes historical comparison difficult.

The playoffs in Baseball is a crapshoot, more so than any other sport.

All you need is a solid pitching staff and some hot hitting, which Cleveland is capable of.
