Honest question re: softball players and conditioning

Are college softball players not held to the same level of expectations as baseball players? You see a large number of flat out overweight softball players. There's no way a baseball player would be allowed to let themselves go like some softball players do.
I'm not trying to come off as an arse because I get that we all have struggles and there could always be other reasons for the weight. It just seems as though, if you're a college athlete, no matter the sport, you should be in your best shape.
You also see some of it in WBB as well. Is it a sport thing? Is it a strength and conditioning thing where a school might not have the same resources as a place like LSU for instance?
Or is it a woman issue where coaches feel as though calling out a woman for her weight/appearance would be a bad call, even though they are an athlete?
Sorry for the wall of text. And to the "why do you care?" crowd, I don't know. It's a lazy Sunday and I'm bored at the moment.

There are fat baseball players. I'm not 100% Bartolo Colon could leg out an inside the park home run without his heart exploding.

General answer, depends on the skill/athleticism balance of the sport.
Generally softball and WWB are more skills oriented than other sports and their respective male sports. Those women are still good athletes, but they dominate will their skills (hitting, shooting, pitching. etc) more than pure athleticism. Yes, maybe they could be more fit, but focusing on improved skill development helps them more in those sports than losing their love handles.
On the flip side in sports where more pure athleticism is needed the women are as fit/ripped as the men (track, swimming, soccer, etc).

don't have to run much when all you're doing is hitting home runs or striking out

It takes a lot of activity for most high school and college girls to stay a steady weight. Unless a girl is in the 5% of women who are blessed with fantastic metabolism and body build, they are going to thicken up as their hips widen.
You see it a lot in girls in high school. They’ll come up as freshman, sophomore, win state in the 400 or 800, and then boom, get tits and an arse and are getting beat by a freshman two years later at a district meet.
Look at girls who get injured too. If a girl tears her ACL in high school or college, it’s basically guaranteed that they put on 30+ pounds.

Coaches have no issue calling out female players for their weight if its effecting their performance. Gymnastics or track is a perfect example of this. While not technically a "sport", cheerleading is another especially if you're one of those tiny little flyers.
It's more so that there really isn't a great emphasis on having a low body weight in softball because of field dimensions, positions, skills needed.

A softball field is much, much smaller than a baseball field. It’s a completely different sport. Speed is not nearly as much of an advantage in softball as it can be in baseball. It would seem to be much more advantageous to be big and strong from the waist down than fast unless you are an outfielder. I am no softball expert, but this seems pretty obvious.

Prince Fielder was a Tarzan. Fernando Valenzuela for you old timers. Lots of overweight athletes in baseball. Pro basketball on the other hand...

Most people think Babe Ruth was the baseball GOAT, and he was quite porcine.

I don’t know what porcine means exactly, but Babe Ruth was not nearly as big as he’s been mythologized to be.

Bartolo is one the most athletic baseball players ever man. Dude can move quick as hell for his size.

Usually the fatties play first base or pitch.
And they are used for their power at the plate.
The bases are only 60 feet apart. That's Little League distance. So it's not like they have to run far...and usually the big girls aren't at the plate to bunt or hit infield rollers.

Babe Ruth only got fat when he got old like after 1933.
He was considered fat for the era when everyone was rail thin pretty much.
Ruth was 6'2" and at his heavyiest weighed 215.

I also know several women's college basketball players who have been tasked with losing weight when they entered college.
