Here's my beef with a committee that selects "The best teams no matter what"
Call it what it is

Bama gets the best recruits
Bama has the best coaches
Bama has the richest history of winning
Bama has some of the best facilities
Bama's Athletic department is one of the most committed to football

Bama is ALWAYS going to be one of the best 4 teams in the country when it comes to talent and execution, so basically they are ALWAYS going to get let in because the committee can say they're one of the best 4 teams and ALWAYS be right, even if they have multiple losses.

If the playoff stays at 4 they should just give Bama an auto bid, don't even make them play a regular season.

Also didn't this playoff get created to STOP SEC bias and STOP teams from getting second chances?

Congrats to Bama btw

so you admit theyre always top 4 but you have a problem with them being picked as top 4.

makes sense

Not at all what I meant by this post btw...

Bama is the best I'm not disputing this. I'm just saying if it's all about crowing the "best" and not the most deserving what's the point? Don't people always love an underdog or is the best team just always supposed to win?

This isn't a playoff it's a fantasy match up where a bunch of people just pick the teams they want to watch play each other instead of the teams who earned it for that season.

In my humble opinion anyway

makes sense

I have a problem that the committee picks the top 4 teams based on talent and not the top 4 based on who deserves it and earned it on the field for the current season

I agree. I posted this in another thread:

Sometimes the best teams aren't necessarily the most deserving teams.

It's a big reason why the BCS was started in order to give mid majors a chance at the big guys. And now we've reverted back to playing favorites.

Look, I think every single year you could put Bama in the playoffs and they'd have a shot of winning it all. That doesn't mean they're the most deserving every year.

Let's say there's a 2 loss Bama team who lost 2 games by 1 point to ranked teams, versus an undefeated "insert any team here", and Bama would likely still be a favorite to win against them. That doesn't mean they're the most deserving though.

College football has too many teams and too many variables to simply pick favorites. There needs to be a specific criteria. Bring the BCS rankings back with the playoff.

Name the top 4 then.

OSU? More losses, including at home, and a blowout
USC? More losses, including a blowout
UCF? Mediocre competition, chose not to play their best OOC opponent
Auburn? 3 losses, not reliable as a good team away from Jordan Hare (which was proven in their last two games)
Wisconsin may have been the only one with a real argument.

If the NFC playoff teams were chosen by a committee, they would have chosen the Packers and Cowboys because "we all know" they were one of the 6 best teams if Rodgers and Zeke were playing all year.

UCF was unable to reschedule our game against GT and I’d be able to agree with the mediocre competition statement if Bama had a killer resume but clearly the west was not the gauntlet it usually is. Bama’s biggest win heading into the playoffs was against a 4 loss LSU team that lost to Troy while UCF had 3 W’s vs 10 win teams.

You guys still don't understand that the entire thing is about money. That's why big conferences only have big schools as members. That's why rules and systems are slanted towards the big boys. Imagine the millions that would be lost if UCF played UGA instead of Bama. No matter what anyone says, it's always going to be about the money.

GT tried to help you in that endeavor. UCF said no thanks. I was surprised that UCF didn't take them up on the offer, and I think it did irreparable damage to the schedule for a playoff shot.

USF played no one to get to ten. Memphis was two of those wins against 10 win teams. So essentially two wins against one battle tested team.

I completely understand that the bias exists against UCF and the rest of us little guys, but UCF just didn't have much to work with for a committee. That GT game would have helped.

So whiny and hyperbolic. Bama has gotten into the playoffs with 1, 1, 0, and 1 loss so far. There is no reason to believe they will get in with multiple losses (like many on here were saying Ohio State should have done this year) although there is a possibility that we won't find out anytime soon.

Provide a link stating that GT made an offer to play the game outside of the weekend that it was originally scheduled. Players were sent home to their families and many evacuated the state, it’s hard to play a game when you can’t even round up your team.

After the Memphis and GT games were canceled UCF had to reschedule our conference game in our bye week, we played 12 weeks in a row after that. Due to not having a bye week at the same time there was no chance to play that game during the regular season. It sucks that the game wasn’t played but it’s not like we didn’t want to play them. Not to mention that a win over Georgia Tech would not have been enough to jump from 12 to 4 in the rankings. The committee has made it clear that a non power 5 school will never see the playoffs in a 4 team format no matter the circumstances and if you care about the integrity of college football that should offend you

Exactly.

1 loss
1 loss
0 losses
1 loss

Conference Champ
Conference Champ
Conference Champ
Didn't win the conference

How in the absolute frick are people freaking out THIS much about these 4 times that Alabama has made the playoff?

I never said they were looking later in the year. But like you said, UCF's players were not available, and it was their call to say they were not going to be able to get them together in time to prepare or play GT. I am not saying anything more than that.

Houston would have gotten in last year had they not lost. 2010 Boise would have qualified had they not lost to Nevada as well. So, I think that is inaccurate as well. Play a good schedule, get rewarded.
