Orgeron will make $3.5 million per year as part of a five-year contract. His Year 1 buyout is $12 million.

Former coach Les Miles, fired Sept. 25, 2016, made $4.3 million per year, and the school owes him a buyout of more than $9 million — paid in monthly installments over six years. The program saved $800,000 with Orgeron's salary, funds the school used on coordinators Dave Aranda and Matt Canada. The duo is set to make a combined $3.3 million this year, believed to be more than any other coordinator duo in college football.

Orgeron's buyout drops every subsequent year of the contract. It slips to $8.5 million in 2018, $6 million in 2019, $4.5 million in 2020 and just $1 million for the final year.

It still blows my mind that this guy has even a single dollar of buyout.

Is this the worst Head Coaching hire of a major program in recent memory?

Alleva needs to be fired yesterday.

That is the kind of buyout I expect from Dabo or Saban...but fricking O?

Would ULM even hire Coach O right now?

It's absurd how bad Joe fricked LSU for years to come.

Let's say we did the 2018 figure. I don't know how Miles' payout is but I'll just say it's evenly distributed.

10 million for 2 coaches to sit on their arse.

I'm assuming another 4 to 5 million for a head coach and the same for the coordinators and position coaches.

So we would be paying 20 million dollars to play football. Zero chance of that happening lol

The question is though how much lost revenue will there be if fans stop showing up. At the very least alleva has to get canned after this year or you will see donors holding on to their money.

That's such a tough situation for LSU. The longer he's there, the more long-term damage he can do to the program and the harder it will be for the next guy to turn things around.

I thought Canada and Aranda would be the determining factors for success. O is definitely accountable though.

Personally, I think Ed’s cool. So when it happens, we can hang out in Destin and talk about the good ol’ days, and that buyout means the beer’s on him.

This is a person who triumphantly lured Johnny Jones out of N. Tex at a time...well...no one was looking to hire Jones away from N.Tex.

Thinking the lack of success of the Jones tenure was just a fluke, he took the same approach to hurry up and lock in Ogeron before...well...the other big schools could laugh at the suggestion of Ed Ogeron being their HC.

I'm smart enough to know firing him isn't financially feasible

But they HAVE to fire Alleva. It just has to happen.

Terrible move by whoever approved orgerons contract. Even worse move was giving miles another year. That really fricked the whole situation up. Whoever is making these decisions at the top should be fired.

You need to fire alleva because he's not going to help the school long term, but you have to give O more time to acquire talent.

Hes not a good head coach, but some of yal make it as if this team has quality talent. Even the best football player on that team is completely out of shape which makes him useless. Young roster and a lot of issues.

Our only hope is that the FBI cuts our nuts off with a basketball corruption so we can clean house

I agree but this is why you avoId hiring in house especially the recruiting coordinator. It's much harder to blame the last guy

You still won some games with Stewart. We may never win a conference game with O.

And that's on alleva.

It's like Demps hiring gentry instead of giving monty another year, many here don't think monty is some God send but we could at least say Demps was a larger problem constantly giving him shite players. Dumb decision and why the grass isn't greener on the other side especially when you hire a known loser and the hiring person is the problem more than the head coach.

Worst coaching hire? Probably not but it’s pretty bad

Charlie Weis says hello. Dude is still raking in the buyout cash

Talent might be an issue when you're losing to Alabama, but not when you lose at home to Troy.

If Alleva was a lawyer and agreed to those contract terms, he'd be facing a malpractice claim.
