Has any other franchise fired a head coach and then rehired them 4 years later?

Charlotte Hornets fired Steve Clifford in 2018 and have now agreed to hire him as head coach again in 2022.

You'd think different if it was your only chance of ever getting a head coaching job again like it is for Clifford.

I probably wouldn't. If he's good enough to coach one team and get re-hired, he ought to be good enough to coach any other team needing a coach. I'd bet on me if I were him.

He got the Magic job after he got fired in Charlotte and got fired there in 3 seasons, 21 wins in 2021. He's turning 61 before the season, the Hornets are funding his golden parachute.

Not exactly 4 years...but Montreal Canadiens have fired and hired again two coaches I know in Julien and Therrien
