2019 Dodgers, actually. 106 wins to the Astros 107.

The fact that it's in the division if fricking brutal though.

Reminds me of the 1954 Yankees. They went 103-51 which was by far the best record they had from 1949-1958. It was also the only year from 1949-1958 that they failed to win the AL pennant because the Indians won 111 games that year. It's ironic how the Dodgers division title streak comes to an end with arguably the best team that they've had over this stretch.

Before that you have to go back to 1998, Braves 106 wins to the Yankees' 114.

Prior to then it was the pre-WC era. In 1993 the Giants had 103 wins and didn't win the division and missed the playoffs entirely.

Mariners won 116 in 2001, Oakland won 102 or 103

Would have been an epic World Series. The Braves blowing that series against a mediocre Padres team was inexcusable.

The Brooklyn Dodgers had 104 wins in 1942 but lost out to the 106 win Cardinals... the 1909 Cubs had 104 wins but lost out the 110 win Pirates... that's the highest win total I can find from a team that missed the playoffs.

Further back and they didn't play enough games to get that many wins. Might be some teams with equally high winning percentages that got the shaft.

1 game between a 106 win team vs a 90 win team.

I'm all Cards but the MLB needs to get it's head out of it's arse about it's postseason.

Its almost like there's a way to both keep the integrity of winning the division and fixing the clear issue with the setup

winning your division shouldn't be the deciding factor

"tough shite you weren't in the NL East or Central, try to win 108 games next time"

Then it's never happened.

ETA: But a few of those 104 win teams that missed the playoffs would have been there with a 162-game season.

Astros had 102 wins that year with Randy Johnson as their ace and blew NLDS to the Padres as well that year. Frustrating as hell.

You properly used irony in a sentence.

I don't think that's allowed here.

Last year and the 2019 team were better. The dodgers offense this year had too many peaks and valleys which led to just one too many stupid losses. The 2019 team was incredible, just ran into an absurd pitching staff and still would have overcome it had roberts not had a mental meltdown

The irony is the streak ended this year, and the team has a very good chance to not make it past tomorrow, whereas the 2018 team was the most maddening and frustrating team of all time but benefited from a weak division and just stumbled and bumbled its way to the world series

Would be r we pic if Dodgers lose to the cards. But with the injuries they have they would not beat SF anyway.

I think their Run Differential of +269 is the bigger story. That’s a huge number, and they didn’t win their division.
