not really

you foul them with more than 2 seconds, you have time off a missed rebound to pass it out for a 3

But you also have to consider the closer you get to the buzzer, the more likely you are to foul them on a 3 point attempt.

You have to find a happy medium.

It's different preference for different coaches. But in hindsight, if I can get the ball in George Neal's hands having to create his own shot, I'm fine with that.

I'm sure someone will ask about it in his presser.

1,7 second and you foul?!

Neal is athletic enough to go up and try to shoot while being fouled. 3 fts is more of a sure thing then a crazy three pointer.

*Gary Neal

good ball handler, shoots 42% from 3. Not as bad of an option as you make it out to be. He was in the game for a reason

The shot he took was SLIGHTLY contested, but he got a way better look than anyone in that situation should. Memphis did not play it correctly.

ask any coach in that situation, and that LAST thing you want to do is foul the guy in the act of shooting.

That's certainly a possibility with 1.7 seconds left.

Greg Anthony is discussing the play right now. The bigger issue was Battier and Conley not switching on the screen. If you look at the replay, Neal made a good move and there never was even that much of an opportunity for Memphis to foul.

They played the last possession awfully by not switching IMO.

ETA: If Battier switches and jumps hard to the ball, Neal would have never been able to get the ball in the first place. Probably would have forced another SA timeout if they had one, or would have forced Neal even farther away from the basket to make the catch.

Dodged a bullet tonight...blowing the early lead still makes me worry about Game 6. Because I do think San Antonio has momentum now. However, as young as memphis is, they won't lose 2 days of sleep over the shot by Neal.
