This is a terrific read on how the Gameday crew (Herbstreit specifically) helps Lee get through an episode on College Gameday. Tomorrow he's returning to Indiana for the first time since he coached there. It's gonna be really emotional. Quite honestly, I can't think about what's gonna happen to that show once Corso hangs it up.

quote:

During the taping of the preview show last week in Bristol, Corso touted Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph as his Heisman Trophy pick. Later in the segment, he referred to Rudolph as Randolph and Herbstreit turned it into a funny exchange involving Davis and Howard, too. In another segment about what conference will be the best this season, Corso responded with how Alabama would beat Florida State. Herbstreit, this time more subtly but with a smile, steered the conversation back on topic.

"The worst thing I can do is correct him a lot," Herbstreit said. "So it's a very fine line between never embarrassing him, never correcting him too much or letting him comfortably get his words out. Not jumping to the rescue too soon, but not letting him just hang out there alone."

Corso has enough goodwill, character, and personality that he comes off as your goofy grandfather when he screws up. That's what is different about him than a lot of the other douches on ESPN.

He's an easy target but he's great and it feels right when he's on set

Like they said, he's only on for 1 of the 4 hours so they don't force it on you.

Good for him

I remember watching him roaming the sideline at the 2014 Ole Miss-Alabama game. He was the only Gameday personality I saw on the sidelines. Guy loves football.

He never really got a chance to coach a program that had the resources to be successful.

I can't find it but I remember him telling a 5 year old boy "not so fast midget." I cried laughing at that shite for some reason. Love Corso. He has no agenda, loves the game and always has a blast.

The best part of that video is watching Herby and Fowler's reactions

Love Corso.
But once he goes full-senile and gets the boot from Gameday, I am hoping that Lou Holtz, Les Miles, and Corso get together and do a segment.

I youtube a 90s clip of corso. He was so good back then providing entertainment value plus analyst. It's just sad watching a TV legend get old and losing it.

Corso is a great guy, but he's getting Dick Clark level bad out there. He's earned the right to stay out there as long as he wants, but I wouldn't mind him cutting back and doing 3 a year or so

I honestly will be very sad when he is no longer on Gameday. I remember the rumors about Herbstreit leaving for another gig. I have a good friend from Ohio State that knows Kirk well. He will never leave Lee Corso for any reason. Period

Corso

One of the good guys. I know a lot of people get frustrated with him, but he is a great guy who deserves to be a part of gameday for as long as he wants.

One of my earlier college football memories growing up was when VT was playing GT to open the season (VT was still in the Big East). Right at kickoff, a huge bolt of lightning barely missed the stadium and blew up Corso's rental car. The next day, he said:

I feel like Corso will be dead within 8 months of his last Gameday episode.

Yep.

I feel like the show and his relationships with his coworkers and crew, and football is what keeps his lust for life in high gear.
