The admins responsible for this are idiots for not having attempted to resolve this before today. I would think the payout they stand to lose from not participating in the game is pretty considerable for them, certainly a lot more than whatever they "saved" from the bus rides and meal skipping.

I'm fully behind the student-athletes in this one. Seriously, a 20 hour fricking bus ride? That's a bunch of BS right there alone.

If they are THAT strapped for cash, they shouldn't be playing teams that far away.

Secondly, isn't Grambling quite terrible? Probably better for recruiting if no one can watch them play.

They're supposed to be getting on the bus in about 9 minutes. Buses are currently empty.

they arent. they are just mismanaged by corrupt officials. i assure you there were funds appropriated for this and they were misused. half the blame goes to Grambling, the other half to the UL system board for turning a blind eye to this nonsense for well over a decade.

The SI article talks about new weight room flooring that Doug Williams was able to purchase with private alumni donations. The school admin wouldn't allow it to get installed because it didn't go through their booster club or whatever.

I imagine that means they didn't get to wet their beak so they got pissed.

They make their money on the classics that they participate in (that are far away).

Another thing that did happen was the budget cuts to higher ed. Everybody in the state though got hit with that.

Good read.

Yea that's pathetic... my gf's sailing team gets flown to every event. Pathetic they can't do that for a football team

Yeah, I used the wrong word.

Looks like the strike is still in effect.

I think it is time to scrap the entire program and start from scratch.

That did sound kinda fishy. I was shocked they cut ties with Doug Williams. I can't imagine that does much to foster good will with an alumni base that LOVES Doug Williams. Although it said they literally budget nothing for alumni donations. I guess they aren't doing much to try to change it either.

"We knew what we were getting ourselves into when we came to Grambling. We new we weren't going to have all this and that, the best stuff. We knew we weren't going to LSU," Amphy says. "But it could be better, even just a little bit better. Because it is not like we don't have the athletes to compete, not like we aren't trying to the best of our ability."

The football program's decline has coincided with the fall of most of the school's 11 other sports programs. The men's basketball team was winless last season (0-28); women's basketball went 9-23. The women's soccer team amassed a 3-29 recorded over the 2011 and 2012 seasons and is 0-4 this year. The women's volleyball team is 9-48 over the last three seasons, including 2-11 in 2013. Other programs have similarly struggled; track & field is the one outlier.
