He is obviously a great coach. Probably the Don Shows of baseball (looking to a public HS football comparison).

How much of his success is development at the HS level, vs. having a feeder travel ball program that feeds into the program?

He’s an interesting guy. It’s a little of both

LC and particularly south LC is a baseball factory so he has constant talent.

I’ll let others speak on him personally

I think a lot of programs have the talent Barbe does, but they don't win consistent state titles...

I don't think that's true. They load up. They recruit as much as people accuse private schools of recruiting. They've pulled kids from Eunice and Natchitoches in the past. Pretty sure that's outside their zone.

Obviously both help. The guy has been doing it since I was at school at barbe(didn’t play baseball on football) 25+ years. Once he built the program with help of a good feeder program he now draws kids who move to play in the system and youth leagues before hs

Yea I think he has gotten more talent then most schools. Just the number of kids drafted or who have gone to play college or juco ball is more then most schools. But when he began the studs he had were local kids. The Chad Cooleys. Etc

They recruit the area east Texas and even pull from the Shreveport/nachitoches area . Glenn might be the best baseball recruiter in the state.

As much as they get, his two sons are the best players he has ever had.

He will tell you different.

It’s hard to appreciate the man when competing against him.

Nobody’s perfect, but you must respect him and the program he has created.

And he’s a baseball guy, unlike other program’s head coaches

The recruiting rumor follows any successful program

South Lake Charles is a massive baseball factory and almost every stud I’ve known from there that’s played at Barbe grew up in LC

LC is a very hot job market and if parents move in and have a good baseball player, why wouldn’t they live in Barbes district?

LeBlanc
Cooley
Topham
Nagle (both)
Johnny Thibodeaux
Trey Quinn

All those guys grew up in LC

Well, he did have Wade Leblanc. He’s probably the best, but his two sons are both really good.

None of those 3 make his top 2, but he would certainly exclude his kids

I played against Barbe in the playoffs when their five hole hitter was a guy from Latin America who hardly spoke English...I’m pretty sure they recruit.

I played third base and it was kind of annoying having Cecchini constantly yapping next to you, but he seemed like he knew what he was talking about and his players definitely played hard for him. I see why he’s been incredibly successful.

Anybody who wins a lot will also have a lot of detractors.

Comes across as a pleasant guy from my limited experience.
