There's no way it had 22.6 million views. I personally don't know a time that watched it. It used to be must watch tv. Those days are long gone.

Are you of the belief that bars, restaurants, and parties are new things that never had an impact prior?

Wonder how much better it would have been on Saturday night on one of the big 4 networks.

A ton better. All championships, Super Bowls, Natty's should always be on a Saturday Night.

About what I expected, I turned it on about mid 4th. All I could muster.

For all intents and purposes, college football ends on New Years Day. The deeper you get into January, the national appetite for the sport decreases by the day. If they don’t account for this in the next version of the playoff, the ratings will only get worse

It’s truly amazing how much more about programming and what nights are better for ratings some random dudes on a message board know than the network executives who do it for a living

It was a rematch. That's why ratings were low. People had already seen this game this year. 2011 also had low ratings, for the exact same reason. I would say I don't know why this is so hard for people to understand but it is 2022 and people intentionally pretend to misunderstand things for the purposes of trolling or outrage all the time.

I actually agree with Walken on that. The early years of the BCS they played the CG Bowl on the 3rd or 4th. When they added the separate BCSCG it was a week or so later, the 7th or 8th mostly. Now the excitement is waning by game day

It was a Deep South event.

But still, it needs to be “championship saturday” or something like that. Most college football is on saturdays. Today was rough at work after being up until 1am.

Interesting that this one was far and away the best rated championship game recently- and it was the only game with zero SEC participants.

SEC fatigue is probably a big issue holding back general interest in the sport

That’s part of it but it was also the first playoff game so there was the novelty excitement

Could be part of it too. Ohio State has a decent fan base. Oregon might bring in more west coast viewers.

SEC country has more devoted football fans period. They probably watch the games more than average no matter what.

give the losers consolation NY6 game placements, and play the national championship game on NYD. Guarantee that will get you good ratings.

Hell yeah it would and it would be an it would be an awesome day of football. Unfortunately, they feel the need to spread it out over 9 days and it loses some luster. Playing on a Monday night is stupid, unless it happens to fall on NYD.

Yep, and it's going to get worse. The SEC, and Saban specifically, are killing college football.

No I meant 3-4 wtf are you talking about

Bama-UGA got better ratings 4 years ago, weren’t there people out at bars watching games in 2018? Answer Yes

That’s been a thing for a lot longer than 3-4 years.

The only “new” way of viewing in the past few years is streaming.

Obviously. I originally replied to someone that mentioned people watching at bars affecting the ratings

LSU-UGA game would have had higher ratings.

Why would anybody want to watch a 6-6 get anally violated?
