What were the streaming service numbers?

This. I was watching on my tablet until the 4th.

Was surprised that the app was only a few seconds behind most of the night.

I'm more interested in this. Why the decline in viewership over the years. If I'm correct this was the first year of the playoffs. Did the playoffs make fans uninterested. Did the games start being played at another date?
Is it Bama fatigue?

still a lot of people to watch college football, on a Monday night.

Yep, I don't get the big deal. This is a huge number for a cable channel in 2022. Of course 2014 would have larger numbers, ESPN (and cable companies) have lost tons of subscribers over the past 8 years.

I think an all SEC final does hurt numbers. For us fans, it's fine because those were clearly the two best teams. But if this type of scenario happens again, I could see ESPN setting up the SEC teams to meet in the first round of the playoffs.

I didn't even realize it was on ESPN only(other espn channels also)

22.6 million is a goldmine for cable channels.

I think a little bit of all the above.

That Ohio State Oregon game was always going to have high numbers, simply by being the first of the CFP era. There would always be a novelty factor.

I do think that the championship game should be played on NYD. As I proposed earlier, have the semifinals a week after the CCGs, settle the top 2 teams, and then schedule the national championship game for a stand-alone bowl on NYD. (Give the semifinal losers a consolation prize of getting to go to a NY6 game.)

Then they would be rigging the playoff to get a predetermined result.

Second highest rated game in the playoff era according to Nielsen.

Btw, most of the major networks don’t rely on Nielsen ratings anymore because they are notoriously unreliable. Using 20k households to measure what is viewed in over 110 million households isn’t very accurate.

It was a 20% increase from last year's game. TV ratings have been going down across the board for pretty much everything except the NFL. Not sure why people take any stock in "lowest ratings" these days.
