A hot-take on the NBA's strict COVID-19 guidelines from George Hill has the Oklahoma City Thunder guard facing backlash. Following the Thunder's loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday (January 12), Hill spoke about the restrictions imposed by the league. When players aren't at practice or competing on the court, they're required to quarantine either at home or inside of their hotel rooms. After being alerted of the new rules, Hill made it clear that he can't be told what to do.
quote:

“I’m a grown man, so I’m gonna do what I wanna do,” said Hill. “If I wanna go see my family, I’m gonna go see my family. They can’t tell me I have to stay in the room 24/7. If it’s that serious then maybe we shouldn’t be playing. It’s life. No one’s gonna be able to just cancel their whole life for this game. That’s how I think about it."
quote:

“We wanna play the game," Hill added. "That’s what we love to do. But at the same time if we’re casting all these rules, this and that, maybe they need to reevaluate what we’re doing. If it’s that serious where you’re telling guys they can’t leave a room. I just don’t understand some of the rules as far as we can sweat 48 minutes with the guy next to us and the team next to us, but we can’t talk to him after the game. It makes no sense."

Congrats to George Hill for living his life and being one of apparently few who realize that infectious diseases existed before 2020.

Also congrats for forfeiting his 2020-21 salary for his inevitable suspension

Good on him for calling out the charade but he's going to get destroyed by woke nba media and the beta male white fans.

The NBA was first in line to create the mass panic in sports as they were the first major league to shut things down completely once a player tested positive for the coronavirus. Since then, they have been on a never ending quest to be the most politically active league AND hold themselves out as the hallmark for handling this largely fabricated "pandemic" (note: the virus is not fabricated. The "pandemic" is).

Many of their rules are totally devoid of logic and are implemented SOLEY on the basis of "optics". I suspect many players now nearly 11 months in to this ridiculousness feel the same way as Hill. It just that Hill is kind of on the tail end of his career and doesn't care enough anymore to keep his thoughts quiet. I'd bet anything he is speaking for many players...even though he's not saying as much

It took a year but maybe people are starting to realize shutting down the world and hiding from a virus was a monumentally stupid idea.

This should be a NBA Players Union issue and addressed within that structure, but it won't be.

Society would be much better off without the NBA.

And his apology will look and sound like one of those hostage videos because that's essentially what it will be.

The irony is that's the world the NBA has helped create. There is one narrow belief you are allowed to publicly express about everything, and if you dare step out of line they attempt to ruin you fir your heresy.

So is Kyrie Irving, he just likes to pretend to worry about COVID so he has an excuse to avoid playing.

The NBA ratings are going to be shite this season. All sports leagues are taking a ratings hit, of course. But they did more to alienate a portion of their fan base than basically any league.
