Its because he tries to run that zone read bullshite and trick teams with crazy substitutions. He took the Acc Frosh of the year and turned him into hot garbage at MD.

But no, Thats all Les Miles. I mean weve been running that same offense since 05 nothing has ever changed.

How was our 2007 offense so good

Because it was mostly the 2006 offense with a senior QB running it, which is what a lot of teams do when they switch O philosophies with a veteran QB.

I fricking hated Crowton when he was here and I was calling for his head two seasons before he went to Maryland but now I just feel bad for the guy.

Good luck Gary

As "funny" as it is that he keeps getting the boot, I really do feel for his family. He has young kids still in school, and they need to keep moving all over the place.

As bad as Crowton was, the worst coaches in the Miles tenure was Maleveto.

I give Crowton a pass because he called a brilliant game against Ohio State in the NC. We haven't seen several of those calls since then. It was a thing of beauty.

Which was Jimbo Fisher's offense, not Crowton's.

Les hacked his headset in Canada and was overruling his calls...that wasn't his offense

Man, talk about a fall from grace. He wasn't LSU material, but he wasn't that bad! His offense at La Tech was was fun to watch.

That's my thought, as well. He had some decent coaching stints, espcially at Tech. How many yards did Tech put on Nebraska at their road game? Had record setting offense at LSU '07. Nevertheless, it's been a downhill slide since then. Did his offense become predictable? Has he actually lost some of is coaching skills? I can't help but wonder WHAT happened to cause his career to go into a death spiral.......

I don't think '07 was Jimbo's O. We had new WR and OL coaches plus GC. Like most OC's, Gary had his strenghts and he was a great fit in '07. And to his credit, I think most of those really nifty trick plays were his ideas.

In '08, I think Crowton was still 'engineering' the O. We moved the ball (in both directions) and put up points. Of course there was that little TO fest.

After '08, Les intro'd a paradigm shift. While I think GC was still callin' plays, I think Les really limited what GC was allowed. And we've functioned like that since, i.e., a very conservative approach.

I always see this. I'm not disputing it since I don't know a lot of Xs and Os, but just as a casual observer the 2006 and 2007 offenses looked pretty different to me. 2007 looked more open and inventive.
