As my Dad would say, he was hell when he was well.

Dude was a beast when healthy. Honestly one of my favorites alongside Reed and Polamalu when he was in full form

He must have one of the strangest career breakdowns of anyone who didn’t die in a car accident or pick up a single freak injury that ended a career in an instant.

Less chance of getting CTE, made millions, and won a Super Bowl. I would say Bob Sanders has lived a pretty blessed life.

He was like a poor man's defensive Gale Sayers.

Not a bad comparison.

That 2006 Indy team was so damn weird. He was hurt for most of the regular season and Indy had one of the worst run defenses I have ever seen.

Then he shows up in Baltimore in round 1 and all of sudden they are killing everyone in the run game

I sat next to him on the plane from the rookie symposium in San Diego prior to the season. He was very nice, soft spoken, and short with huge thighs. He showed me a notebook that had his schedule while he was there that week. He was busy. I always rooted for him because he talked to me first. Sad he got hurt so often.

Btw, the plane was filled with football players. I was squished between him and a big lineman, didn't get his name though.

Bob Sanders and Mathieu are basically the same players. When healthy, they're as good as anyone and, they're up there with the most exciting players in the league.

They just don't have the frames to survive with the modern day NFL monsters, though.

He was a human missile every play. Loved him at Iowa.

From Kirk Ferentz:
"My mentor, Joe Moore, recommended Bob. He said you may never teach him to back peddle, but if nothing else, he will make your team tougher."

Dude pretty much changed the hawkeyes mindset about playing physical on his own, when he was a freshman.

Those Indy teams were completely different when he was on the field. Their defense and Cover 2 scheme was built around him. Manning and the Colts offense would score a lot of points, get a lead, and put pressure on the other team to take chances.

The Colts defense had a lot of holes, but they thrived when playing with a lead. Sanders would regularly make game changing plays Dwight Freeney would pressure the QB, and and Bob Sanders would capitalize on the back end.
