Two points:

1. Nothing involving Miami (Ohio) and North Texas be called a "classic."

2. How can anything that is being played for the first time ever be called a "classic?"

This is not a "there are too many bowl games" thread. I don't care how many games there are. I'd watch it if I have nothing planned that day. This is a "stupid name for a bowl" thread.

Can I add Pepper Jack cheese to my Frisco Classic? Hold the tomatoes and double the jalapeños.

Dallas suburban cities love to brand themselves as "authentic" or "traditional" to try and negate the fact they are just vanilla burbs created out of nothing . A lot of them have even created these fake old towns to further the subterfuge. So this bowl name is just a continuation of that mentality.

A large portion of Frisco, possibly even the site of the game, is in Denton County. UNT is in the nearby town of Denton so attendance should be decent and the surrounding area will get a nice little financial bump.

Frisco also hosts the FCS Championship game every year so this would be a nice little tune-up.

Frisco has a legitimate history as a rail town although it’s not nearly as old as areas in S LA. The downtown isn’t great but they do have the National Videogame Museum there. I mean, it’s not McKinney but what is?

or.... ESPN gave it a quick and easy traditional sounding bowl name that's slightly different than the other game up in Frisco that's called the Frisco Bowl.

at trying to psychoanalyze the name of a bowl that was created by the NCAA and ESPN just a week ago.

What a reward for North Texas:

Congratulations you are going to a bowl game!

But it is 30 minutes away across Lewisville Lake in Frisco.

We'll just treat this like a home game, and the bus will leave campus 3 hours before kickoff.

Well they did start the year 1-5 so the fact they made a bowl at all is pretty crazy.

Yeah. I was kidding about playing in Frisco. I remember 10 or so years ago when they were terrible and a sacrificial lamb for an appearance fee in Tiger Stadium to get beat 50- something to 3. Good for UNT.
