Just finishing up S3E1 and popped in the thread to say “ Screw Lewis Hamilton and his disingenuous ‘Cash is King’ quote.”

Where does that prima donna thinks the cash came from to have paid his ridiculous 2021 salary demands?

Wait until you get to episode three.

He is speaking on human and social rights while racing in Saudi Arabia this year.

Cash is King in the sport. Don't forget for a second how sleazy and dark this sport is. I won't quit watching, but I can't think of a shadier sport. Don King would blush at the dark money these teams take.

Serious question, why do you think they were still trying to run the race in Australia? He was asked why they were even there when the rest of the world was shut down.

F1s covid rules prevented them from being flexible with who they chose to follow.

They had to pick teams to embed with race weekends, and stick with it. I assume that prevented them from filming the George Russell story.

They didn’t have to be embedded with the teams to interview drivers after the fact or offer commentary on what happened.

Does anyone think they are so clairvoyant that they happened to be embedded with racing point the race stroll finished 3rd, alpha tauri the race gasly won, mclaren the race ricciardo finished 3rd, racing point the race Perez won, AND haas the race that grosjean crashed?

That’s what they’ve said. In their words, there were so many good stories this season, that it turned out they could craft a good episode out of each embed.

Apparently they had between 5 to 20 people at each race.

They didn’t say whether that was an operational choice, or a covid one.

They should've skipped over the made up Lando/Carlos feud and did the Russell story in it's place. The season was packed full of great moments and drama, no need to make some up. I don't think they'd have needed to be embedded with Merc to cover that, even if it wasn't a full episode worth.

I thought that was pretty weird myself. McLaren became my adopted team after going to COTA back in 2015 so I've been following them closely since then, but I would think anyone with a casual interest in F1 last year would've known that the Norris/Sainz/McLaren split was pretty amicable all the the way through.

I agree - and that was a silly and unbelievable plot line - I can only assume they didn’t have a team working with Mercedes that race, and couldn’t get one in place due to Covid rules.

I watched an interview with the series producer, he explained they couldn’t cover the Williams sale due to coverage issues. The new owners wouldn’t give them access.

They hope to cover it via a flashback in the next series though.

Correct, McLaren seemed pretty excited for Carlos to be making the move, Ferrari may stink now but I'm sure all these guys grew up wanting to get into F1 and drive for Ferrari. McLaren's attitude was sort of "it's cool, we get it, we're happy for you". It's also common practice once a team knows a driver is on the way out to give them limited information and start to favor the other driver, Netflix tried to make it out like McLaren was screwing Carlos and shoving him out the door.

Let's not forget that McLaren even made him a really nice send off video that gave us this gem.

Not related to anything but I wanted to post this video (51 seconds long). It's the start of the Belgian GP from the Kemmel Straight in 2012. You can hear the cars rev their engines, hear the start, hear them all slow down for T1, and then see them come into view... it's audio porn basically. Sadly that sound is gone from today's cars.

Watched the Netflix series over the weekend and got absolutely addicted. Got high and bought a year of f1 tv to catch the races just in time for this weekend.

That you can watch free on ESPN

You can pick a team and/or driver to follow and root for. But being the first year you may just like the learning the storylines and history aspect.

Watching practice usually doesn't add a ton, but the announcers usually add a good bit of info. Since you went in on F1 TV watching Will Buxton's pieces for preweekend/post quali/post race are pretty informative.

Mercedes is some version of the Yankees or Patriots (maybe Alabama)
Ferrari is the Cowboys
Red Bull is Ohio State
Williams is the the Browns (or Nebraska as suggested)
Mclaren is Notre Dame
Alfa/Sauber is Boise State
Alpha Tauri is the Texans
Racing Point is the Mets

Every new fan should know going in that F1 is almost always dominated by one team. Mercedes has won 74% of races since 2014. That will certainly continue this year. Before that it was Red Bull (2010-2013), then Ferrari (99-04).

Midfield battles can be pretty intense but nothing comes close to the teammate battles. Especially when it borders on real hatred (Hamilton v Rosberg) (Vettel v Webber)

Hamilton is a SJW fighting the good fight against global warming while flying around in private jets and driving the ultimate sports cars. He is also very slightly good at driving F1 cars.

He is the villain.

The heroes could be Verstappen. He is kind of a young punk, but has matured greatly over the past 2 years.

Basically, to avoid collapse we need George Russell to get a mercedes seat and kick Hamilton out.

Everyone else is just fighting for 2nd and third or something.

And Haas has new drivers, so there might be less wrecks this year.

Screw that guy

My immediate thought was to argue this being that Haas has two brand new rookie drivers but then I realized that they no longer have Grojean so this could very likely be a possibility.
