ETA:

Texas it is

quote:

Sources: Top-ranked transfer quarterback Quinn Ewers (@QuinnEwers) intends to transfer to Texas, per @yahoosports sources.

Rumors and reports continue to swirl in the whirlwind recruitment of former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Quinn Ewers, who entered the NCAA transfer portal on Friday and is now considering the TCU Horned Frogs, Texas Longhorns, and Texas Tech Red Raiders.

quote:

The belief in Lubbock is that Texas Tech can compete with Texas, but the numbers being thrown around in Austin are truly astounding.

Word on the street is that first round draft pick-level NIL money is on the table for Quinn Ewers if he chooses Texas as his transfer destination.

The weaponization on the NIL front is fully underway.

So $50,000 annually for scholarship offensive linemen from Horns with Heart is only a drop in the bucket as the deep pockets of Texas donors are now coming to bear on NIL deals with the early signing period looming.

Although there’s not a public timetable for Ewers to make a decision with his circle tightening since entering the portal — as Hummer noted — but the widespread belief is that he’ll commit quickly enough to ensure that he has time to do some recruiting before Early Signing Day next Wednesday.

If it was about the NIL money, he would have chosen UT from the beginning.

Quinn Ewers is about to get millions of dollars without playing a single snap.

All for a kid that’s already quit once. And hasn’t take a snap in college football. Insane.

I think I may prefer CFB just implement a salary cap and go full minor league.

NIL seems like a mess that stands to have donors exclusively “donating” to players instead of donating to worthy university causes.

Anybody who didn't see this coming is a fool.
And anybody who supports this is also a fool.

Football players at FBS schools have it made, at least they did 20 years ago. I can't imagine how things are now.

I hope any business/single entity that puts up this kind of money to unproven 18 year olds get burned hard.

I have nothing against the players getting money but this is ridiculous. We'll have some interesting stories in the next few years about the successes and failures of NIL.

I don't think they care about ROI for their business. They are money marks that want to buy players for their school to win games.

It's gross, but at least it's out in the open, I guess. I would guess the numbers come down in a few years when people realize they don't get much return on investment other than from the occasional quarterback. But, we're in the wild west era right now.

How many millions is this clown going to rake in before he takes his first snap?

Is it though?

Players of his projected caliber are only going to top programs to play ball. Those will be the same programs offering the big NIL deals. The big programs will now just be duking it out in public with donor money as opposed to the shady dealings under the table.

I hope so bad this kid ends up being a shitty QB. That'll stop some of this stuff in the future if they give a kid whose never played a snap millions of dollars and he ends up shitting the bed.

Yep.

A few of these big contracts bust and these numbers and wild contracts will come way down.

Its new right now and people/schools are trying to push the boundaries (I don't blame them), but this won't last.

A correction is coming.

Absolutely love that TX is going to be the first to fall completely on their face with the NIL bs.

The guys has bust written all over him... all this to still go 7-5 will correct the NIL stuff on it's own.

Why? Is it because he's taking advantage of companies throwing millions at him? We'd all do the same thing this kids doing
