A 5 second penalty pushed him to 3rd.

This happens all the time. People lose control of their cars and other drivers have to avoid. Penalties are given for deliberately unsafe moves, not for power sliding out of the grass.

How can Lewis say he ‘didn’t want to win like this’ when he was on the radio during the race asking for the stewards to review?

I would say that is more reactionary than actually asking for a gifted win.
Can't blame for HAM for asking them to look at it. All on the stewards for fricking this up.

The penalty was absolutely justified.

I won't say the penalty is completely indefensible. The argument is there. I just don't see how they made the call seeing the info.
F1 is notorious for inconsistent calls depending on the outcome of the incident. This incident had no negative side and should have been ignored. Great racing negated by stewards having too much control.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with looking at it. And I don't have a problem with Hamilton asking for a review, based on his vantage point. If nothing was there, they wouldn't have bothered in the first place.
However, there should be some common sense employed. Enforcing this penalty implies some intent by the driver. I haven't seen anything to suggest Vettel could've obviously done something differently to regain control and not squeeze Lewis.
Again, no one is debating Vettel made a mistake there. But that doesn't make what followed a penalty by proxy.

I don't think the penalty was enforced because HAM asked for it. You would be saying F1 has a bias over Ferrari, which is crazy.

I don't either. I like that Vettel said the crowd shouldn't boo Hamilton. Lewis asked for a review in the moment, but I believe he's sincere in saying he doesn't want to win that way.
And yeah, Ferrari, of all teams, doesn't have a bias against them. If anything, I thought Ferrari and their rough start to the season would be given some leniency in that decision.

Peter Windsor thinks Vet hit the gas or stayed on the gas so that he could maintain position in front of Lewis after leaving the track.

Perhaps, but only Seb knows for sure. The breakdown of the replay during post-race showed where he oversteered in the turn and oversteered trying to correct the car once he got back on the track.
It's easy to second guess in hindsight with replay, but I just think it's tough to assess a penalty on someone trying to correct a mistake at 100 mph under the assumption that it was avoidable.

Vettel was on the receiving end of the boo's when HAM was finishing 2nd. Guess that is the way fans go in the sport.

I think there's just a thirst for more parity in the sport. It's natural for neutrals to pull for somebody who isn't winning as much. The Sky Sports team today certainly didn't hide their disappointment after the penalty was announced.

Always has been. When Vettel was winning 4 of Schumacher winning 7. One team dominating isn't a new theme.

I think that sums it up pretty nicely.
Here's Nigel Mansell

That’s ridiculous 5 seconds penalty,Seb did well not to hit the wall. NO GRIP ON GRASS ! No room on track there. Great driving from Lewis.

What’s Seb supposed to do? Crazy ,the car stepped out.At that point he was a passenger.
quote:
Very very embarrassing. No joy in watching this race, two champions driving brilliantly, will end in a false result.

Oh for sure. It's always been an F1 thing. But the current Mercedes dominance has been damn near historical. At least when Schumacher was destroying everyone, it felt like there could be a different winner every other week.
