"Carmelo is absolutely being blackballed"

quote:

Former NBA forward and Iowa State star Royce White believes that Carmelo Anthony is being “blackballed” from the NBA, and he slammed Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James this weekend for not doing anything about it.

White — who was, in a way, blackballed from the league himself — was asked about Anthony in Dallas on Saturday before his BIG3 game. Anthony, a 10-time All Star, played in just 10 games for the Rockets last season before he was told that he was “no longer needed.” He has yet to find a new home in the league.

quote:

“‘Melo is absolutely being blackballed,” White said, via Fanatics View. “He’s one of the realest in [the league] ... He’s given too much to the game for them not to allow him to play or for them to kind of culturally just make an agreement that he’s not good enough anymore. All of us here that played the game at the highest level know how good Melo is.”

Anthony spoke out about his exit from the Rockets for the first time earlier this month, saying he didn’t like the way that it went down. He also said he believes he’s good enough to still play in the league, and he’s just waiting on a team to give him a chance — which, at this point, no team seems willing to do.

quote:

White then slammed James and the Lakers for not signing Anthony this summer, when the team was looking for pieces to build around him and Anthony Davis. Instead, Los Angeles signed a one-year deal with Jared Dudley — which White thought was ridiculous.

“We know that there’s no way that the Lakers would go out and sign Jared Dudley and not sign Carmelo Anthony,” White said. “And another question is, when a guy like LeBron is walking around out here like he’s the face and voice of the players, how is he letting his banana boat brother hang out there in the wings and then go sign Jared Dudley and not Carmelo.

“If anybody watching this thinks that Jared Dudley can hold Carmelo’s jock strap, I’ll slap you.”

Dudley — who has averaged 7.7 points per game in his 12-year career for six different teams — responded on Twitter on Tuesday morning, though later deleted the tweet.

“This isn’t Melo vs. myself, That man is a 1st ballot HOFer,” Dudley tweeted, via the Arizona Republic. “We all want to see him back in the league. Royce seems uniformed when he speaks and this situation in calling my name out. This league is not about who’s better then (sic) who it’s what’s players make for the best Team."

If Royce has such a problem with it, maybe he should fly out to LA and tell LeBron himself

Oh go frick yourself Royce. You wouldn't fly on a plane and wanted a special bus trip to EVERY SINGLE game. Totally impossible for a guy that is counted on to be available every single game.

What would be his connection to Melo that he'd feel compelled to lash out like this?

I saw Dudley play a few years back when he was with the wizards and even back then he stuck out like a sore thumb and looked like he didn’t belong out there. He just moves different from all the other guys in the court he kinda waddles out there. So I can see where Royce is coming from

He refuses to take a smaller contract and be relegated to a bench spot/role player.

It's really on him.

Kind of like Kaepernick. They have a false sense of value to teams so they aren't agreeing to any contracts.

So that’s 1 person out of the millions of people in this country who think Melo should play in the league again.

He actually is quite mentally ill. This is well-documented.

So players aren't lining up to run with LBJ for the hell of it?

No, hes actually documented as mentally ill.

He wouldn't fly on planes because of his mental illness and his personal solution was to get the Rockets to charter a bus for him from city to city during the NBA season so he could play.

The Rockets accommodated him in every way but the bus thing and he flipped out over it because they wouldn't do what he wanted. He walked away from the Rockets as if he had been insulted and a great injustice had been done against him. Nothing would have been enough for that guy.

When I opened this, I thought the ex-NBA player was going to be Carmelo Anthony.

It would have to be a contract thing because you could EASILY get the same production from melo that you'd get from Dudley.

And from what I've read, LBJ is your friend until it doesn't benefit him. It's how Wade lost out on $10 million in 2014 when he was waiting to see what James would do, and James just left him hanging before announcing he'd go back to Cleveland.

No. Dudley understands he's not a star, doesn't stop the ball and plays decent D.

Melo is a ball stopper who has trouble playing in a system where he isn't the star and is a big negative on D.

I'd take Dudley 10 of 10 times, especially for a backup role.
