They have a scroll going of the upcoming Navy graduating class of 2020 and their upcoming assignment. Love it.

That’s pretty cool. I have a cousin currently enrolled at the Naval Academy who I believe is graduating in 2020. I hope they show it again so I can look for his name

Those poor bastards have no idea what hell awaits them on their first boat. Get ready to be screamed at by the CO/XO/Department head on a daily basis.

Get ready to be treated like an idiot by the CPO and his division.

Get used to not sleeping

Learn to love coffee if not already done so

Realize quickly that nobody gives a frick that you went to the academy.

Survive all that on your first tour, prove your competence and coolnesss under pressure... and you’ll go on to do great things.

Something like only 20% of all Ensigns survive for a second tour.

Any non-Mustang SWO below Dept Head level basically spends their entire day running around wondering what the frick is going on. I don’t know what they get taught at OCS beyond the basics of navigation and how to use proper table manners, but it apparently has nothing to do with the actual day-to-day operations required to make a ship function. Hence the saying, “Officers run the Navy, Chiefs make the Navy run.”

Submarines: you had aviation on your wish list and didnt make the cutoff. J/K, we had some dealings with a consultant who was a former submarine officer and he was one sharp, squared away mfer.

How easy is it to escape a rancid fart on a sub?

The anime used in the CO2 scrubbers smells so bad it mask all other smells.

It’d take 3-4 runs through the washing machine after an underway to get that damn smell out.

It’s nothing like that in aviation, at least in my experience. That was a long time ago though. The best officers I worked under were Academy grads and it wasn’t close.

I've got one son in the Army and one in the Navy. I don't know who to pull for.
