1:18 faster than the previous record. 61:06, 60:33 half splits. Ran the last 2Ks at 4:29 mile pace. Hard to even comprehend. The GOAT.

I really don't get it. 4:29/mile is way, way faster than I could ever sprint. I probably couldn't hold a 4:29/mile pace in an 800 meter. Even if I trained my arse off. And the guy is holding that pace for 26.2 miles.

The world record for the one mile run is 3:43.13. Eliud is less than a minute slower than the fastest ever mile but holding it for two hours.

I can't even imagine having a body that could achieve something like that.

His second half split was only 50 seconds slower than Ryan Hall's American half marathon record

That’s almost unfathomable to hold that pace for that long.

It's mind blowing. I run a good bit and always have, ran CC in HS etc. To think his pace for 26 miles is over a minute faster than the fastest I can run a single mile without feeling like I want to die is something I can't even wrap my head around.

My guess is genetics influenced by centuries of ancestors running long distances out of necessity.

I thought it was a goal of their government to excel at the sport starting back 50-60 years ago.

One intriguing thing....i remember an interview with Bob Kennedy (US middle distance legend....not politician) and he talked training with Kenyans and how well they knew their bodies. In the states we have a fundamental of more is better. Eg more miles running, always working...but kenyans if they felt they needed a break..would take a break. One story is they went out for a training run got a mile or so and (i forgot the Kenyans name) turned to Kennedy and said he was tired and stopped running and went back. Kennedy kept going( as if completing the task was the ultimate goal) Two weeks later Kenyan training mate set a WR

Genetic predisposition, there are also genetic reasons certain African nations are not good at things, but the left has deemed science taboo if it doesn’t align with the dogma of global collectivism

Go to the track and try to run a 69 second 400... You're now running world record marathon pace

So, eleven minutes would have past before Abebe Bikila(1964 Tokyo) would have crossed the finish line if running the same race.

Incredible!

It doesn't hurt that a Kenyan Marathon champ is like a Super Bowl MVP and Cy Young winner rolled into one
