Durant jumped the gun on FA decision before meeting with Steph

Slowly working my way through the Russillo/Simmons podcast and Simmons said he heard from a few reputable people that this went down.
Steph is in Shanghai, and decides to fly back to New York York meet with KD for one last face to face to try to convince him to stay. It's 15 hour flight, and about an hour or so before he lands, word is out that KD is going to announce his decision on his show..... then he's signing with the Nets. All before Steph hits the ground. Steph still meets with him to at least say his goodbyes, so to speak, but this apparently rubbed the Warriors the wrong way. Mainly because it's widely agreed around the league (according to Simmons) that Steph is one of the best teammates to have and was always sticking up for KD while he was still catching shite even after winning a Finals and a Finals MVP.
Simmons hypothesized that things actually started going downhill after that first Finals. Durant outplays Lebron, wins the MVP, but at the rings ceremony Steph still goes last and is the that gives the speech. Durant wants to be the guy, wants his own team, but knew that would never happen at Golden State regardless of what he did.
I know no one likes Golden State, Steph, or Durant, but there it is.

KD won them 2 titles, doesn’t owe Steph anything.

Its crazy how soft Durant is that this actually a plausible scenario

Between this and the deets about how he left OKC leaking it’s clear the Knick fans in the sports media are big mad.

And this is why these guys need some real world life experience; they all act like 14 year olds

Durant joined a great team in place, one that had won a title and the most games in regular season history, and expected accolades for being “the man” immediately. What a bitch.

I'm pretty sure that has been proven to be bullshite

Even as talented as KD is he has to work his arse off to be that good. That’s plenty “real world”.

It’s true KD has a hand in helping them to two titles. I don’t know how that 73 win team that barely lost their 2nd ship would have ever won anything again without KD?! The same KD who they punted down 3-1 the YEAR BEFORE. They maybe could have used all that money to get another top level talent or two really good players to beat KD again wherever he landed. But yeah...he owes them nothing because we are all grownups, and tell yourself all you want that KD is somehow not the softest bitch in the league. And I hate all of the fricking Warriors.

I can’t believe I just defended the Warriors (minus KD).

While he didn’t hurt their chances of winning more titles than they already had without him, KD most likely has zero without GS. Without GS KD would be nearing the stage in his career where he starts catching MAJOR heat for not winning any titles.

I think that was fan fic by Simmons.
They were so broken up about him jumping ship they retired his jersey a day later.

2 titles and 2 finals MVP, couldn’t hold it down last year and they knew it so they had to rush him back.
Why is Steph flying back to meet with him if they didn’t need him?
It was Steph’s team cause he was drafted there but KD is the reason they won the last 2 titles.

I don’t really buy when Simmons builds a story like that. He throws crap out there so that in a year and a half he can quote it and claim it as fact and something that was “reported” and none of his lackeys will ever call him on it. Ryen might but he won’t fight him long on it.

I’m not saying they don’t need him right now.
I’m saying KD owes his reputation as a basketball player to a multitude of events that allowed him to join a 73 win championship basketball team.

I think Steph would be the first to admit that. He doesn’t care about any of that stuff.
Even without those last two titles, that was going to always be stephs team. Not just because they drafted him, but he put them back on the map and brought them a championship before Durant and just a fun guy to watch and root for.
Durant would never get that there.

Well Steph won a championship without KD. What the hell did KD expect?
Just like Kawhi with Lebron. Does Kawhi really think hes going to win the attention against Lebron?
Kawhi would be 2nd man.

Also, from the podcast this feels like a "please don't sue us" gesture. Not saying Simmons is right but it does feel possible.

It’s an incredibly thin sliver of the real world

I agree with you, but wasn’t their only championship without KD the year Love got his shoulder ripped off and Kyrie broke his kneecap in game 1 of the finals?
