Did UAB cancel their way to a CUSA .... title?

This is my school, so I can speak on this. Yes, I know no-one cares. 
Heading into this past weekend, UAB was 3rd or 4th in CUSA West. They beat Rice, only their 4th conference game to move to 3-1 (.750). This conference win percent vaulted them to 1st place in C-USA West and a ticket to the C-USA CG against Marshall.
Looking into the history, UAB cancelled 4 straight conference games... right after their one and only conference loss. UAB ended up only playing 4 conference games while others in West contention played at least 6 if not 7 conference games. Did they cancel their way through season, realizing they needed to pickup the final game and win a CUSA West title? Washington isn't the only team to claim Division title with only 3 wins in 4 games.

I don't think all 4 were on them. At least it was Southern Miss Covid issues on that cancellation.

I'm not sure the effort was worth the payoff, but bravo to the scientists at UAB.
