Why? One team clinches the bye, then everyone else just starts sitting their starters the last couple games.

I hate the addition of more teams, starting to feel like nba. However the afc could have an 11-5 team not make the playoffs this season

They don't care about producing a watered down product as long as it continues to make money. I would not be surprised to see a 20 week regular season within the next 15 years.

Happened once with Matt Casel and the Pats

This keeps more teams interested in playing week 17 then the old system because there’s more teams that still have a shot to get into the playoffs

And the NFC could have a 6-10 team win their division and take the #4 seed in the NYG if the Redskins lose tonight

Will they send Dwayne Haskins a hat for the division title if that happens?

The Player’s Association doesn’t care either. They came out recently and stated the NFL should eliminate off-season workouts since they didn’t have them this year, but the league was still able to produce quality football during the season.

They also included a clause in the most recent CBA to allow owners to expand the number of regular season games

The networks don’t care because even a watered down product still produces better ratings than anything else they air.

Permanent until they expand it again.

Because what's best for the sport, the players, and the fans means nothing. Gotta sell those commercials, that's the sole purpose of the NFL now, selling tv commercial ad time.

I was pretty surprised the owners were able to get that included in the CBA. However, I guess it is easy to get whatever you want when the person you are negotiating with, DeMaurice Smith, is a complete moron.

Yep, TV contracts got so big they completely blew away all other considerations. The sport used to be managed in a much more healthy way. Now the league is run as a TV production.
