In reaction to the Big 12's recent raid of Cincinnati, Houston and UCF, the AAC has focused on recruiting a group of schools that includes Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, San Diego State and UAB, sources tell CBS Sports. UAB, a member of Conference USA, is the only non-Mountain West team on that short list.

If I was the American, I would add:
Army, UAB, Colorado St, Boise St, San Diego St, and Fresno St.

One division would be Army, Temple, Navy, ECU, USF, UAB, and Memphis. The other division would be SMU, Tulane, Tulsa, Colorado St, Boise St, San Diego St, and Fresno St.

This would be a lateral move for the MWC schools

The remaining AAC teams are weaker than the MWC

UAB, Boise State and Colorado State would be great for AAC and wouldn’t be a huge drop off from Cincy, UH and UCF.

Eventually the ACC is going to be Pitt, West Virginia, Syracuse, Rutgers, Miami, Virginia Tech, Temple, and Boston College.

That would be a huge move for UAB to be associated with the likes of Navy, Boise State, and Colorado State. Surprised one of the Louisiana schools didn't make the cut.

There's a couple decent programs in the AAC with Tulane, Memphis, Navy, and ECU, but let's be honest: Tulsa, Temple, and SMU are all pretty meh.

The Mountain West is a pretty solid conference outside of New Mexico, Hawaii, and the Nevada schools. Even little ol' Wyoming is frequently competitive both in and out of conference.

Why the hell would Colorado State give up regional matches to instead play ECU, Temple, Tulsa and Tulane.

Or San Diego State give up regional matchups like UNLV and San Jose state to play SMU and South Florida

To be honest, if I were in the Mountain West, I wouldn't want to leave for the American at this point.

If I'm The American and cannot get any MWC teams to defect, I'd look at grabbing Marshall, UAB, Army, and either UL or La Tech.

That would be so bizarre from a conference created at a golf course in Greensboro, NC by schools leaving the Southern Conference.

The 8 remaining members of the AAC have posted an average ESPN SP+ rating that is higher than the MWC in 4 of the past 5 seasons

ECU and USF sports like volleyball, women's basketball and soccer travelling to SDS and Fresno for conference matchups, and vise versa.

Seems a bit costly for non-revenue sports.

This is Big news for a East coast based conference.

Boise would be a really good add, they’ve consistently been one of the better G5’s for a long time.

The AAC TV deal pays nearly double of what the MWC deal pays.

Other talks of the BIG wanting the cream of the PAC. BIG 12 getting the rest.

With the current construct yes, but they will take a hit when the "high value" teams leave. Will the MWC teams get them back to that?

Would anyone else LOL if Baylor and TCU blocked Cal and some other schools from getting into the Big 12?

Their current contract goes until 2032 so unless ESPN put in a clause that let's them renegotiate if teams leave I don't think it really matters.
