He told @BurnsAndGambo

: "Looking back, in hindsight, a horrible decision to have invested that money in a guy that performed as poorly as he did. It was or biggest mistake this season from a talent standpoint. And I'm the perpetrator of that.'' Kendrick obviously is hoping that Montgomery (6.23 ERA) does not exercise his $22.5 million player option in 2025.

Brother, Montgomery isn't declining a $22.5 million option coming off a 6.23 ERA. Dude absolutely Shredded a guy that's going to be on his team next year.

I mean talk about losing the faith of your players. Who the hell is going to want to play for you if you publicly rip them or their teammates when if they struggle.

George Steinbrenner did it all the time when he was owner of the Yankees and he never had any problems signing free agents. Players will put up with a lot as long as the check goes through.

That was the 70's and 80's.

This is the 2020's.

Different times. Different mentality of people/players these days. Some don't like having their feelings hurt.

There’s also a pretty wide chasm between Steinbrenner Yankees and 2024 Diamondbacks.

They were one game out with a very young team, as well as injury plagued as hell. Stupid.

Boras is to blame as much as anybody. He secured 1 long term deal out of the 4 hold outs, the rest had average to bad years (Monty, Bellinger, Snell)

I’m guessing they will figure out some swap of bad contracts to move on from him. There’s certainly no shortage of candidates. I just can’t remember an owner so publicly blasting a player that’s currently under contract (while simultaneously taking responsibility for the acquisition)

Maybe they and the Rangers can swap deals. We take Montgomery's bad deal, they take Garcia's. Both expire next year, I believe.

Didn’t Montgomery sign right before the season? He was rumored to a lot of teams throughout the offseason and Spring Training.
