This team has a LONG way to go before they're up to par. The recent performances just arent going to cut it in October.

re: DAT: Astros (Cole) VS White Sox (Nova) 7pm
I'll copy this over from yesterdays that I saw this am on Brantley:

LINK

Uncle Mike article this am:

quote:

"It's an adjustment period when you first switch to a new team after being with Cleveland for a long time," Brantley said. "They welcomed me here with open arms. The coaching staff has been great to me. They made me feel comfortable here really quick."

quote:

"I call him Uncle Mike. He's always on me, doesn't ever let me get down," Springer said. "Doesn't ever let me get too high. Just wants to make sure I consistently do the right thing every day, that I prepare to play the same way every day, which is something I didn't really do before, just get to the park and do what I needed to do. Obviously, I respect the amount of time he has in this game and I respect him as a person. When he speaks, I listen."

This advice will serve Springer well when he makes his comeback in september.

Has anyone ever looked at Josh Reddicks stats from 2012?

32HRs 85RBI's 11SB

What happened that year? My goodness

Swing hard in case you hit it. Struck out 151 times that year which is 65 more than his 2nd most strikeouts in a season (86).

He's talked about that 32 home run season before and basically said he sacrificed contact for power and he didn't like striking out that much so he went away from it.

Pretty good story on the Athletic about the Astros pitching staff

ETA: Yordany on Fangraphs too

Yordan Alvarez has figured out this baseball stuff

Brantley has been incredible on the field but you can’t quantify the impact on Springer. His approach rubbing off on someone with Springer’s raw talent is scary and we are seeing it

Since Altuve went down, the plate discipline the Astros have shown overall has been to the point that regression is inevitable.

QAB after QAB from the likes of Marisnick, Reddick, Chirinos, and even Gurriel's walks are up.

Constant pressure on the opposing pitching staffs, which includes lineups often devoid of all available talent

Yeah, the statistical analysis says "Manster"

Superb info added in the comments section, too:

quote:

You mentioned his insane LD rate, but equally crazy is that he’s hit only 1 IFFB this season. That’s not necessarily uncharacteristic for him, as he has as many HRs this year as he has IFFBs throughout his entire minor league career. Of the 6 qualified minor leaguers with a lower IFFB%s this season, Yordan’s GB rate is over 10% lower than the next closest one. He’s just playing beautiful baseball right now.

Basically, he's the anti-Yuli. He hits line drives and bombs, not popups.

He's 25 years younger than Yuli.

Which makes Yordan the 40-year old rookie.

Yuli should be in the lineup.
