DAT 7/31: Astros (Greinke) @ SF (Wood) | 3:05 CT
Let’s get another dub boys.

My erection just went down from the Graveman inning last night

A dub tonight and we take the MLB best record away from SF too.

Giants fans chanting "You're a cheater" is ironic considering they rooted for Barry Bonds for years. If any fanbase has no right to criticize on this issue, it's the Giants.

I was looking at the numbers of our new arms compared to our current pen and it was interesting.

Graveman: Stud. Doesn't matter the pitch or situation.

Garcia: Balanced approach, but his fastball gets hit hard. Statistically has done better behind in the count, which speaks to his balanced approach. He's thrown 64 fastball when behind in the count compared to 78 breaking balls.

Maton: The recipe is simple. First pitch strikes, trust the fastball.

Good stuff. Will be interesting to see if the Astros nerd cave can unlock more with Yimi's spin and/or just make him an offspeed guy.

Also, fire Dusty Baker.

re: DAT 7/31: Astros (Greinke) @ SF (Wood) | 3:05 CT
Is Espada the unanimous DAT choice for next manager? Or should we let Click sink or swim and go get his guy (assuming he’s not 100% on board with Cintron)

It became very obvious yesterday Click and Dusty don’t see eye to eye regarding the roster and I think that’s a very underrated aspect to our (any teams) success under Hinch/Luhnow

Even if the manager is a puppet for the GM office, likely how Hinch was to Luhnow, at least they’re on the same page. And unless you can go get one of the few elite in game managers out there, the GM puppet who isn’t a moron and will fight for his players is the best case scenario IMO

I think Espada checks the boxes for Not a moron like Dusty, will fight for his players, his players would like playing for him. Only question would be how he and Click mesh

ETA: If it’s not Espada I think Rays pitching coach Kyle Snyder could be an intriguing option. He really came on my radar during their playoff run last year. And Strommy won’t be around much longer so it’d be nice in that sense too

ETA 2: I’m a dumbass and originally said Cintron. I meant Espada

I’d personally prefer Espada. He seems extremely impressive and buttoned up with a tad more experience.

Don’t think Cintron would be a bad option either, if those guys can marry the analytics with feel for the game sign me up. Dusty can’t really do either and he’s way out of his depth with this organization which is why it has the feel that he and Click do not get along.

Espada with Cintron as bench manager would be perfect. Keeps some continuity within the clubhouse

Espada or take a run at Tito Francona this offseason. I'd be happy with either choice.

If Click wants his own guy, that's fine, too.

Yimi's spin

I think I read that he’s got real high spin on the fastball, but it doesn’t play like it because his spin efficiency sucks

Yeah, that's what they say. Will be interesting to see if they tweak him further even though what he's been doing would be just fine in middle relief.

BTW I just read an Guardians of the Galaxy beat writer's take on the Maton trade, and he said Yainer Diaz is a player the Astros coveted. It's like the Click regime wants catchers who have strong arms AND can hit. Radical concept.

A sneaky sleeper pickup by the @Astros, Diaz is a career .326 hitter as a pro.
