Joe Ryan is 7-1 with a 2.21 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 70K over 61 innings.

Bielak... not so much.

All signs point to a loss.

You should be. We should be talking about how awesome that 'Tuve slam was.

We were probably due for a bullpen meltdown but it’s infuriating they wasted that slam from Jose. This is a loss today

I stayed busy cooking most of yesterday and only saw some references to LMJ but didn't dig into it. What was the issue? Did he have a #NotASetback?

And Whitley as well.

Dana: Lance, come in and take a seat.
LMJ: what’s up?
Dana: Lance, we aren’t going to put you back in the starting rotation. At least this season. When you go back to the team, you’ll be in the bullpen.
LMJ: frick that! I’m a starter bro!
Dana: we need you to be a team player here. We need to protect your arm for the good of the team and your career.
LMJ: frick that! I’m a starter bro! (Storms out cussing)

One day later….

Dusty: nah, we need to slow down until we know he’s healthy.

LMJ won’t be cleared again until he gets on board with the bullpen gig.

So what do we do about a starter? Are yall confident in carrying France an Bielak the rest of the way?

The issue is who do you trade for and what do you pay for it. In a playoff situation I think we can solidly say Framber, Javi and Brown are our starters. So in that regard, you don't necessarily need to trade for an ace or even a playoff starter. But we don't have any depth to lose even 1 of those guys. Depending on Urquidy's recovery, we could end up starting France in a playoff setting.

So is there a backend starter with higher upside than Bielak/France that could potentially be moved to a bullpen role or reliably serve as a playoff starter if needed?

All joking aside it's time to plan for the future and be sellers this offseason. Trade tucker at the deadline.

There will be rental starters who are an improvement over France for sure (and you could use him as a 6th starter down the stretch if you want, he’s serviceable).

Giolito and Eduardo Rodriguez are the best two rental guys who will probably be available off the top of my head. I’m sure there are others (or pitchers with another year or so of control). It’s not super deep but they have to make a deal simply from a depth standpoint. You can’t assume Urquidy will come back 100% and the other three will stay healthy.

Stroman may or may not be. He's got a player option for next year but probably opts out to parlay this year into a long term contract. But he's come out and said he doesn't want to be traded. We'll see. Cubs didn't end up trading guys like Contreras and Happ last year when the world expected them to.

Wonder if we could get a solid SP for Chaz, Meyers or Julks?

We have a surprising surplus of OFs without even mentioning Brantley (for good reason)

I'm sure that would have to play in any deal that was worked out.

I hear ya

Tucker is worth long term commitment, but it's fairly evident he is going to go the way of Springer and Correa and outprice himself

.270 w 7 HRs even with the shift being banned isn't getting Yed-like contracts from us. If he wanted to be in Houston, he should have taken that offer.

I love that this group has successfully turned the Lady into a community leader tramp.

Can't and won't disagree with any of that

I would add that France and Bielak have both been somewhat surprisingly competitive

They have filled in well enough, but I don't trust them on increased innings in a potential playoff race.

Former Astros legend Vince Velazquez might be available, if his latest injury isn't serious.

Jordan Montgomery might be a target if St. Louis continues to suck.
