We flew too close to the sun. The world wasn't ready for Peak George and now we're being punished for reveling in such gluttonous behavior. Altuve was the first warning. George was strike 2 and 3. REPENT Datters. The end is near!

To continue the discussion from the previous thread I know they aren’t going to play him but imo it’s a huge disservice to him and the organization Fisher was a top 50 prospect at one point. Treat him like one and give him a fair shot to make it. Do I think he has it? Probably not but until he gets the real shot he’s gonna be stuck in this limbo spot he is now

I mean he did make the team out of spring training last year, started 24 of the first 36 games and he struck out 37 times in 74 at bats.

Tucker got 28 games and I think we all agree he needs more time. I know total Fisher has more but its on the back and forth train. That opening season part was the only real shot hes gotten. I use JD davis as an example. Slightly less PA as an astro and now with regular playing time hitting .282 with a >.800 OPS.

For sure Id rather be having this conversation about Tucker or Alvarez but Hunch has to get that injuries is the opportunity with where the organization is now. Build real organizational depth to either keep and let high dollar guys walk or trade to acquire assets.

Hinch gets very little say into who gets called up.

I’d rather see the two big studs get a shot, but the fact JD is called up now tells me this will be short term. No need to disrupt the studs’ routines for a quick cup of coffee.

If Altuve has a setback or another injury happens, we’ll all be debating if Tucker or Alverez should be the one getting called up.

But he does get to set the lineup. Did he use the injury opportunities last year to get tucker regular at bats? No. Is he likely to use it now with Fisher? Nope.

ETA my point with this is Fisher was considered a "stud" at one point. Top 50 prospect or higher IMO is a "stud". Weve ruined that value by giving him sporadic appearances at the major league level with minimal at bats and what do we have a result? We really still dont know for sure.

Crawfish Boxes speculates that Fisher is a temporary bench stabilizer in the short term until Altuve comes back, sends Diaz back to the bench and then you potentially see Ted or Yed.

Fish is still striking out 24% of the time in AAA this year. He ain't the one. I fear calling him up and playing him a lot on hurts his remaining trade value.

But it's happening:

@jakemkaplan
The Astros are calling up outfielder Derek Fisher from Triple A, sources tell The Athletic.

I disagree. We should have called up Cavan biggio. We waited too long once again and the freaking blue Jay's of all teams called him up.

ASLEEP AT THE WHEEEL!

The arrogance of the organization astounds me. They think these kids will be sitting around at their beck and call to say please Ludlow may I have some more. It aint that way.

It's the smugness I can't tolerate. Lunhow won't touch anything that didn't come from his regime. Isn't it interesting biggio doesn't get the call up?

Springer and altuve both keep getting mysterious injuries and neither drafted by him

Keuchel gets the umtimate bitch slap in th face. He wss not a lunhow guy

I'm sick

There’s nowhere to put the guy. You have to let this lineup thing go. Hinch isn’t changing anything. You don’t put Fisher and play him full time just because “he’s a stud.” Just so he can get ABs? Whomever they call up won’t be a full time player regardless if any of us like it or not.

Gonna start him full time in front of Marisnick? Brantley? Reddick? Fisher is coming up for depth and to split time with Kemp in the OF when other guys are benched due to rest or matchups.

Did I just not post that they’ll get time off for rest and matchups?

You’re demanding full time play for minor league players coming up like you’re demanding to play MLB players every day.

There’s only 9 spots in a lineup. Where are you putting them all?

Who are you sitting to play who every day? Fisher? Cause he’s a stud?

I feel bad for Fisher, who will now be compared to Cavan Biggio for the rest of his career.
