He's a free agent after the 2018 season.

So we are going to let DK go with just a comp pick? I think if the front office felt the same way they would explore a trade to get some value.

They aren’t going to trade someone who is a key part of the team trying to win another championship. If he leaves, he leaves.

Right, no way they trade him if they are in contention... and it seems highly unlikely that they will be out of contention next season.

If for some reason, due to injuries or whatever, they are out of the race, then yeah might be worth it to trade him. Hopefully that's not the case.

The Astros have the best farm system in baseball; not the best inventory of prospects right now (because they've used so many), but the best system. They generate prospects like no other org.

They have a good chance to repeat, so there is no reason to trade DK.

Off topic... how are you liking the Yoder? I bought the 640 a couple of years ago and use it as much as my stove. Save yourself money and buy pellets online.

I did PR for Xmas last year.... covered it in a mixture of fresh crushed garlic and horse radish... best prime rib I ever ate.

Back to baseball: anyone want to speculate if Luhnow signs any of the core guys to long term extensions during the winter meetings?

Honestly, I don't think any of them will sign one without checking what the market will give them first. Maybe the can lock in Marwin for a few extra years.

He also added:

Luhnow did say the club has made "multiple offers" on pitchers.

More from mctaggert:
quote:

Hinch and Luhnow both said they would introduce left field to Colin Moran this spring.

Moran to LF... very interesting. That tells me that Preston Tucker's days remaining as an Astro are very few.

Based on Luhnow's handling of the Verlander deal, I'm going to say he waits.

Altuve has to be the front runner on getting a long term deal and Boras is his agent, so just seems unlikely to me.

Winter meetings are for acquiring players, extensions happen later in the offseason after team composition is more set.

Moran in LF would not be fun to watch
