Can we please lay the Gomez/Marisnick comparisons to bed. I don't want to go to bed all riled up.

I love Gordon as a fit here. But he will be 32 in February, and I keep hearing he will get a 6-year deal.

If he's asking six, some retarded team will give him seven just to convince him to go there.

I'll be interested in seeing who that team is.

Personally, depending on the dollar amount, I would give him six, but that's as far as I would go.

I can definitely see the argument against it though.

I like Zobrist for a three-year deal. He's a super versatile switch hitter.

Zobrist would be a great player to add.

He was killer in the ALDS

Maybe we can bring Aubrey Huff back too.

I'd be all for it, if Huff didn't suck.

Meh. He'll be 35 in May. Zobrist is good at what he does but for the cost/age difference I'll take the super versatile switch hitter we already have on our roster. Marwin will be 27, he's cheap, can play 1st, 2nd, SS, 3rd and LF.

Not advocating for it but thoughts on Jason Heyward? I've seen chatter of him getting $180-200 million. For what he does, that seems absurd to me. I'd actually love his skillset in our lineup but not for that price.

No, not for that much. Especially when Houston's #1 priority should be overall, to keep the core in Houston as long as possible.

I've convinced myself that Jordan Zimmerman should be #1 target in the offseason . He didn't have a good enough year to warrant 120M everyone was expecting him to get going into this year's offseason.

Hes a solid #2 behind Kuechel. That'd put McHugh at #3. That's a solid rotation on paper.

Then you go look and see what you can do about bringing in Clippard.

Look at Zobrist's numbers and postseason efforts. He is the definition of consistent, an OPS over 800 guy who gets on base a lot. You sign him to play left field as a starter, but he can be moved all over if needed. Zobrist is a better player than Marwin, who should be our actual bench utility man.

He is young and already proven. Giving him a long term deal comes with little if any risk of an age dropoff. I think you make a run to sign him if you're thinking of letting Gomez go as a free agent after next season because you'll move Springer to CF and Heyward takes RF forever.

Either Zobrist or Heyward make sense for this team as a two hole hitter so that you can scoot George and Carlito back a spot each in the order. Zobrist is the cheaper, more versatile switch-hitting option who is such a good fit for what the club needs and how long of deal they'd likely want.

FIFY. And that makes a bona fide WS contending rotation.

I wouldn't bet on us doing this though. As has been mentioned ad nauseum in this thread, we don't have a lot of knowledge to work with on this front office, but a move like this would definitely seem to run counter to what they are doing right now. With the success they've had with LMJ, I could see them taking their chances on one of Musgrove/Appel/Velasquez/Martes panning out and having Feldman fill in the gap in the interim.

After a surprising season and making the playoffs, #Astros are still garbage. Computers suck.

I provided stats proving my point that it wasn't that significant of a difference between the two, and in some ways Marisnick was better, after Gomez was traded to Houston.

Now I'm not an idiot and I know that Gomez has a lot more years under his belt showing that he is a star player, but he did not play that way this season. All I was saying was that given his contract being a trade friendly deal and I doubt they would re-sign him after it expires, that it would not shock me if he was involved in a trade for a top end closer because he has a lot more trade value than anyone else the Astros would be willing to part with.

It's cool everyone keeps just picking out parts of what I say and ignoring my main point.
