Dana White is planning domestic and global expansion for Power Slap League and a major move into boxing in the next couple of years, and he is also eyeing AT&T Stadium as a possible venue for Conor McGregor’s return fight with UFC. The UFC president spoke to SBJ on Friday from London ahead of yesterday's UFC 286 headlined by the welterweight rematch of Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards. The event, which was held at the 02 Arena on ESPN+ PPV, took in a gate of just under $8.6M and had an announced attendance of 17,588 -- making it the highest grossing event in 02 Arena history.

White has been rumored for years to be looking into getting into boxing, and he revealed to SBJ that he has been working intently for the last eight to nine months to put together a new boxing promotion that he is hoping will launch within the next 12-24 months. He was in Boston watching a boxing match before he flew out to London this week, and he said he “wasn’t there for nothing.” Boxing has long been beset by its business being chronically complex and decentralized, and White said: “I don’t know if I can fix the sport but I think I can put on fights that people want to see and I can make boxing interesting again and build a brand around it.”

He'll have to actually pay to make stuff like this happen. Top fighters are prize fighters for a reason.

The original plan for the Apex before the pandemic was to set up about 1,000 seats and have boxing, mma, bjj, concerts, etc every day of the week.

I dont think he will. There are tons of very good boxers that arent getting paid shite. He just needs enough of a fanbase to sell good fights to as he builds it up. He already has a headstart with the ufc fanbase. The ufc model is great and they do an amazing job pushing personalities and making great matchups even for fighters that are not championship contenders. Its much different than the boxing model where a fighter fights cans for 30 fights and then fights big fights. UFC does a great job building up personalities where as boxing most people couldnt name more than a handful of boxers and probably no real up and comers.

this may never happen though. they have been talking about starting a boxing league for years, just the other day dana said the zuffa boxing thing was dead. who knows though.

Well, things changed because of the pandemic.

Dana did finally admitted they really need to stop doing so many Apex shows, and once they get out long enough to renovate the main area to 1,000 seats they will add more sports including boxing

An example of a fight that people want to see is Spence/Crawford. Crawford is allegedly getting 8 figures to fight bums.

People want to see the top guys fight each other. Not the "very good boxer".

Simply not true and is proven by the ufc model. An example is the card last weekend. The most hyped fight was the comain gaethje vs fiziev. Gaethje lost two of his last 4. I dont remember fiziev ranking but im giessing 5-10.

People want to see a bunch of good fights with names they recognize.
