Even with a short season playing maybe the shortest schedule of talent in the history of D1 football, he tries to further protect his asterisk season by shortening the game-

quote:

Citadel refused to shorten 2nd half vs. Clemson: "Not what Citadel is about"

The Citadel may have gotten spanked by Clemson on Saturday, but at least it left with its dignity … and a $450,000 check.

Clemson beat The Citadel 49-0 to improve to 2-0 and drop the Bulldogs to 0-2. The Tigers were up 49-0 at halftime and apparently offered to spare The Citadel from further embarrassment.

“We came here to play 60 minutes of football, and that’s what we were going to do,” Thompson said after the game, via The State’s Greg Hadley. “It didn’t matter whether I was gonna get beat by 100 or I was gonna get beat by 50, we were gonna stand in there and we were gonna play a full 60 minutes of football.

“I believe they wanted to shorten it to 10 minutes or a running clock. That’s not what we came here to do, that’s not what The Citadel’s about, that’s not what we’re about. I’m not gonna cave into that at all. I understand that that’s something that they can certainly offer to me, but it doesn’t matter to me. If I’m gonna get beat, I’m gonna get beat. It doesn’t matter to me.”

This isn’t unique to Clemson or Dabo. It’s standard procedure when a smaller school is getting the crap beaten out of them.

Yeah last year the Cajuns and Texas Southern did a running clock in the second half. It was 56-6 at halftime.

Why are ACC teams even playing shite non-conference opponents instead of going to an all-conference schedule like the SEC is doing?

Yeah, this is a non frickin story. All this amounts to is the HC for The Citadel trying to make some kind of screwy statement to his team that we don't take the easy way out of an arse-kicking.

If his team was worth a shite and playing for something, he would have taken that out. Why risk injury to any starters in a game that is already lost and means nothing to your season? You can't tell me The Citadel thought they had a chance of beating Clemson. No, it was a money game.

Take the money and run...and don't risk any senseless injuries.

There are alot of reasons to not like Dabo, but this is not one of them.

Lmao! No, you're about 4 winning seasons since 2000, and an overall losing record as a program. But yeah, take the high road to make yourself and your crappy team look tough.

That was actually pretty classy of Dabo. And a great response from The Citadel’s coach as well. Seems like the only “punani” here is the OP.

That's not the way it went down. The Officials asked him at halftime if he wanted to shorten then game and differed that choice to the Citadel.

Well, the ACC didn't realize the SEC wasn't going to puss-out. The ACC wanted tp protect the Rivalry games with the SEC.

And what about the other 10 SEC teams? Who were they supposed to play? Your idiot commissioner said “only in state non-conference opponents”.

Let's see:

Florida-Florida State In Florida

SC-Clemson In South Carolina

Ga-GA Tech In Ga

UK-Louisville In Kentucky

Looks like those ACC-SEC games are good

The ACC made the schedules prior to the SEC meetings and assumed that the SEC wanted to preserve Clemson-USC, FSU-Florida and GT-Georgia rivalries.

Still leaves 10 SEC teams without an 11th game. Your commissioner put that “only instate” stipulation in there knowing the SEC wasn’t gonna do it.

And once again, what about the other 10 SEC teams? Who were they supposed to play?

ACC doesn’t get to make the rules. They tried, then the SEC showed them who runs the show.

Nice battle with the Citadel. Sunshine looked great. Much better than when he faced a real team in January.

Interesting coming from a South Carolina fan, considering their last game with The Citadel.

The ACC found teams to meet the 11 game schedule...The SEC didn't even try.

You tell'em coach, let your guys take a beat down, possibly get injured from being whipped by bigger guys, but damn it, you showed them.

Better question is why is the SEC voiding all their contracts with smaller schools by only playing conference games. Is Covid unique to non-conference? Cannot believe ACC is being criticized for this.
