Yeah the reason this is public is due to the sexual assault allegations against the Lt. Governor of Virginia.
In trying to corroborate her story, one of her friends said that several years after this happened, she said that the Lt. Governor had assaulted her and he kind of taunted her that he knew she wouldn’t be considered believable because a dean of student affairs had already told her that she lacked a strong case against a basketball player a year prior.
From what I can understand, the case with the Lt. Governor was a date rape case, and the one with the basketball player involved her performing oral sex on him voluntarily and then wanting to stop, and the basketball player not letting go.
I’m not sure I understand all the details but it seems like the basketball player was never named until 2001 or 2002, and at that time her friend recognized the name Maggette because he was in the NBA.
The Maggette part is probably going to end his employment with Fox Sports but the real story is what the hell is going to happen with the leadership in Virginia.

So, if I understand this correctly, the woman that was raped isn’t the one that dropped maggette’s name? A friend of hers did instead?
