I LOVE that we have this week 0 type thing in cfb now where a few games are played the Saturday before week 1

I hope it becomes more expansive with more relevant teams

Greatest time of the year.

Great weather and great football.

This will be my first Fall with my newborn son. Will mean a bit more I think, even though he'll be an infant and not remember anything

I think there should be week 0 preseason games across the board. Get teams ready for the following week by playing in a live game situation that doesn't mean anything record-wise. Get the backups and freshman tons of live, in-game reps, get a better reading on any position battles, etc.

Wouldn’t it become week 1 then?

The great thing about this is that you can use him to get out of other weekend obligations that might pop up. Friends of ours had a joint baby shower or something when my son was 2 weeks old. I "volunteered" to stay home with him while my wife went to the party and I was able to watch the Kick-6 game between FSU and Georgia Tech back in 2015. Had I gone to the party I would have missed the only positive moment in that entire season for us.

The original Kickoff Classic used to be the week 0 thing for a couple decades and they had some pretty big names participate.

With everyone playing a 12 game regular season now and the growth of neutral site kickoff games in week 1, I doubt you'll see it become much more expansive among P5 schools.

ehhh, it's fine now

I'll probably watch some of these games, but I prefer to mostly hold out for the real thing

I like the starkness of going from the desert of no football to the oasis of major games. It kinda spoils the lead up if we throw a handful more shitty games in the mix to create a full week zero full of unimportant matchups

Week Zero is bigger now because of a new rule adopted last year that expanded the Hawaii exemption. Now teams that play at Hawaii anytime during the season can also play a game during Week Zero. So Rice, Wyoming, and Duquense (and their opponents) are taking advantage of the rule. I was reading about that last year because BYU moved a game to a week before the "opener" with LSU.

In other FBS action that day:

Duquense @ UMass, 4:30 pm, Eleven Sports, umassathletics.com/watch (I think this is available only if you pay. Less scrupulous people may look for a free stream on a less-reputable site. )

Prairie View @ Rice, 6 pm, ESPN+
